Does it still feel like the 2010s? - It's been 2 Years since the new decade and I wonder which aspect of the 2010s is still left.

So we're now 2 Years into the 2020s decade and I'm still looking for that signature sound and feel that differentiates from the previous decade. From what I can gather so far, There has been a wave of artists on twitter drawing Anime taking character designs from the 1970s - 2000s and experimenting with it adding a bit of modern touch to it. It looks pretty interesting and it led me to coin the term "New Anime Renaissance". However looking at the seasonal anime is style is entirely different and looks more like the 2010s (A mix of good and bad) though admittedly they do appear to look a bit better which leads me to believe this new art revolution is gonna take a few more years for the studios to catch on to this trend though I do suspect an upcoming title Koukyuu no Karasu seems to be influenced by this trend. As for music. I honestly couldn't tell because normally I listen to whatever music I want and the radio stations I play are music from past decades so rarely do I listen to the greatest hits but from what I could gather it's gonna sound like late 2010s music for awhile as honestly this kind of feel didn't really fully manifest itself until 2015 however it's not because of me lambasting the modern pop songs (unless it's from a more popular artist and it sound like completely formulaic shite) but I eventually find a new song to listen to. For everything else. It's still hard to tell. I have this sense that because of the internet that people have access to information on different trends is that there are many people who latch on a trend even if it is outdated. I honestly have a feeling that like before the 20th century, each decade is gonna look the same and trends just continue to last in shorter intervals.

Clear, distinct differences between decades aren't as much of a thing as people like to pretend they are. The early 2000s still felt a lot like the late 90s and the early 90s still felt a lot like the late 80s. Decade styles are something that really only become apparent with a few years of hindsight, it's only in the past few years that a clear distinction between 2000s culture and "now" emerged.

History goes like that on a longer timeline as well. Medieval people didn't just wake up one day and decide it was now the Renaissance; Renaissance people didn't just wake up one day and decide it was the Enlightenment/Industrial Revolution.

Yes/No, it depends on what you define as 2010s. The 2010s itself may as well be two separate decades as much of culture seemed to shift in the wake of the 2016 election. Before, the 2010s were sort of a continuation of 90s and 00 culture with a false feeling of things getting better.

The 2020s so far feel like more of the second half of the previous decade. Not much new has happened culture wise as Covid bs has set any advancement on hold, amongst other things. I would probably say to wait till 2025 before things really start changing, by then the effects of Covid should be gone, new election cycles will probably reshape culture, and other events such as Ukraine will likely be done.

In saying this though, I believe culture will change, but I cannot answer on whether or not it will be better.

2010s: ascendant, annoying, smug liberalism + the Trump pushback/optimism
2020s: dour, authoritarian, hysterical shitlibism + global depression + grappling with our dying demographics

It feels like the 2020s is going to be the global ruling class attempting to strangle all joy, freedom, and hope out of the world in revenge for us rejecting neoliberalism in 2016. Trump's election convinced them we can't be trusted with even the barest level of human freedom.
