This is basically what happened back in the Burned Fur era. On the occasion that we could out someone with legitimate, archived, undeniable proof (which was way harder because we didn't have the Farms or nearly as much organization) the denialism shifted to active ballwashing and hostility.
Eventually it became all too clear that not only was the cancer being covered up, it was being fed and sheltered by the willful choice of enough of the furry fandom.
