I'm a huge doom fan and mapper/modder, and in keeping with the theme of this thread I landed in hot water in a doom community discord by mentioning this part of a lolzy terry wad:

How could anyone take this seriously? Me and my buddies quote and laugh about it constantly and we plan on interviewing terry and other wad makers he's inspired (we've already contacted a few) to preserve the innocent silliness of these creations. Middle finger firmly raised at the hypocritical doomworld community and their totally un-self-aware moralizing attitude at spam, antics and creativity which has had the opposite effect they intended on me and plenty of others, /vr/'s where the real good shit is at anyway.

I can agree with them on the Pussy Riot part. After all, inclusion of irl people in such fashion without any given context does seem quite weird and tasteless, even if it's those unlikable nutty cunts, so of course it's gonna look suspicious.

The other parts however, fucking seriously? How is any of this worse than what you see in Duke Nukem 3D or that easter egg with imprisoned Lara in classic Shadow Warrior? Lo Wang even laughs and cracks a joke on her situation.

I STRONGLY disagree here. It has a few moments that can be amusing (King Ralphis boss being one, much thanks to the voice acting), but it was and still is a pretty tasteless, frustrating and overall unfunny wad that put a beginning to a trend which spawned even shittier wads. It's not a meme wad either.

Being offended by something like this is even more fucking stupid, can't argue here.

Lack of surprise is the least of their problems. Majority of them were and still are an unfunny trash, only few managed to be at least a bit funny. And I dunno, early terry wads were the same fucking dumb shite over and over again, modern terry wads have some "gems" among them on the other hand. They follow the same obnoxious formula, but try to use the advantage of it and season the contents with some variety and wackiness, so even if you won't find it funny, you may be interested enough to keep playing.

UAC Nightmare is fucking retarded. That's the point, though. It's hilarious lowbrow idiocy that barely functions correctly and is oddly charming because of it. If you want quality maps, you're not getting them from a Terry WAD, save maybe Lilith.

You bet your ass that I had those three installed and played them. Well, I played them until later updates of GZDoom couldn't run on my computer. Now I just use prboom+, the superior source port.

I'm not really sure how good GMan's quality is as a reviewer since I just casually watch his shit but the comments give me an insight in how autistic some of the shit against him could be. Then again, I wonder how many people just take some video of a port as proof of him being shit since him making a "ur mum" joke or liking Brutal Doom to be ported to some Unity port is some indication of quality compared to actually knowing shit or at least being entertaining like Civvie or Mandalore.
