DOTA 2

splitting dota into ranked / casual / turbo absolutely ruined the psychological feel of the game
Why though?

May be it's due to me being a brainrot gen z goycattle ass, but I really enjoy the feeling of a competitive game. Sportive rivalry spices up the game process and the wins feel much more rewarding (like you're actually doing something, which you're not, so perhaps it's not a good thing)

And turbo, as far as I see, is mostly used by new players to quickly test out new characters in actual battles. But I don't play turbo and don't like it either.

Why, as an oldfag, do you think the divide spoiled the game? Always interesting to hear out old players perspective.

The game is already competitive. It was competitive before it was on the source engine. What changes is that you have "outcome doesn't matter" mode with highly variable match qualities, and "outcome matters too much" mode that actively tabulates how good you are at the game and raises the stakes of every match which logically you cannot win. Even a top 100 Dota player is still going to lose a ton of games doing a herald to divine climb because that's just how the game works.

I want high quality matches but I don't want to be told I'm Nth best player in the world because I'll never be #1 so it doesn't matter.

One of my friends (who's really high rank) said it's borederline impossible to win at higher rates unless you have a team (which he does)

I thought they added rank-less matches so players of different ranks can play together. Like if your friend is divine and you're a herald. Didn't they?

How were mixed-ranked matches available and regulated before the divide? If they were at all.

Never heard of it. The player base is split three way as it is and it sucks.

There's All pick mode which is the unranked, you can queue with whatever rank your friends have and with all kinds of combinations of players and rank, IIRC there IS some kind of hidden MMR for it but its separated from your actual rank, this is the old dota mode where there was no position queue so its your classic random insta picks carry.
Ranked you can group queue but only as duo, trio and 5 man (I figure 4 man ranked is not allowed to prevent solo player from potentially be completely non comunicative) the system will try its best to match you against ranks closest to your group total MMR, say, if you have a divine friend and you're high archon the game will try to match you with another group that has similar rank disparage.
And then there's turbo where you will find the most schizophrenic players you'll ever meet and its basically a mode people play while completely drunk or high.

Before this IIRC group ranked matches would have its own MMR number and people really didnt bother with them for that reason since the only rank value people cared was solo rank. Even unranked was better valued than playing group ranked. I do kinda miss captain's draft from the unranked pool, it was good shooting the shit with your retard 5 man to try and figure out a decent draft.

Even back in warcraft 3 days you had people who only played -em easy mode which is basically what turbo is. Turbo is so drastically different that it's almost not even dota imo, unranked is just for people playing with friends for fun. Ranked is the only real mode.

Also as an omni one trick he feels really good as pos 5 this patch. His ult being undispellable is nice and his repel is like a 17 second cool down. Really nice when cores refuse to buy bkb

I've been trying to play less turbo since the game mode is so ruled by certain heroes and the majority of the games end in a stomp since 1 team wanted to go 3-4 supports.

Yeah, I have tried to get into Turbo for a long, long while because it is what my 2 friends who still play Dota 2 like to play. My favorite picks are just too slow and not impactful enough for Turbo, like Kotl, Warlock, Legion Commander. Too long cooldowns, too little easy to achieve damage, not enough CC, and LC needs stacks to get going, but because of Turbo's comeback mechanics you won't be able to single out an easy target for long, and your duel damage is basically halved because of how fast games progress.

Problem is, I wanna get better at LC and do some unorthodox pos 4 pics like Lina, but I'm afraid of being the sole reason we lose if I fuck up royally lol

Go for it nigga why would you care about an opinion of a retarded russian (if he was above 70iq he would obviously have been conscipted to die in ukraine)
I crush games all the time and still get hate it doesn't matter. You can mute all at the start as well but personally I enjoy throwing niggers around when it's an increasingly rare hobby.
I shit you not when I started losing behaviour score i doubled my racial slur output and it came back to 10k within couple days.

Turbo is a gimmick and basically just a custom game like overthrow or pudge wars. It sucks way more though in dota anime you can play as your favorite waifu and isekai your enemy with an ambulance I wish it was more popular.

I turned off strict solo q for one game emediately got matched with a team of 0/19 feeders on my side and the most blatant 2 games on steam account sub 1000 matches immortal.
Never EVER make my mistake.
