"Doxing" in 2025

Agreeing on another term or arguing one term over another is incidental. The main takeaway from the thread is Null is no longer thinking in hypotheticals on the matter of the definition of dox on this website, if you continue to use it, expect to have your post reported by other users and expect moderation penalties in the usual escalation.

To quote the Bernie meme, he is no longer asking, there is now a gun(or lightsaber hilt?) pressed to your temple. Just stop using a term that is going to cause legal and visibility issues. Feel free to use anything else sensible in its place. Usage of the nigger word remains unchanged(minimum 10 posts using it per week to keep your account active and in good standing)

This is not a bad idea. doss can be short for dossier, which retains the meaning that it's supposed to convey and it doesn't sound terrible when you read it in a sentence.
I was making a joke about admitting to DDOSing people instead of admitting to doxxxxing people.

I seems to me that the word "hacker" has successfully been reclaimed from the journalists. Although it's still legally defined as a criminal thing, many programmers happily describe themselves as hackers and I don't see normies recoiling in fear when they hear that anymore.

idk if that can be done for doxing, much fewer people love doxing than hacking, but it's a possibility.

I was going to say that unmasking/demasking or exposing would work, was even going to suggest 'gumshoeing' (to engage in detective work), but I don't think those would be beneficial because those imply that users are actively seeking out information on a person for the intent of publishing it on a post. That has a vicious look to it, I thought the info posted on a cow was supposed to be public information or uploaded by the cow themselves. If users are actively seeking information on someone to post in a thread full of whatever misdeeds they've made, then that can be implied as an act made to cause intimidation.

I'd suggest a term that is rooted in re-uploading or archiving, like 'mirroring' or 'disk driving' or something like that. Not sure if I'm alone on this thought.

This reminds me, when my old (dead of TDS) forum needed a replacement term, they borrowed a funny literal translation from a foreign language.

If international kiwis know funny words, do share, they could be a good candidate for the next step on the euphemism treadmill.
Maybe we don´t have to look all that far. Dutch language has the verb ontsluiten, meaning 'to open up', and/or 'to make accessible'. The noun ontsluiting almost always refers to cervical dilation in childbirth. Since noone will have a clue how to pronounce those words let's just stick with dilation.

¨Preschooler's sleep paralysis demon Natalie Daintyfrills, born Chad B. Rompercock, threw a tantrum after getting dilated by the kiwifarms¨

Why not just make a word filter like how he did with "fam". It's not like you can expect people to remember this perfectly. It's gonna take time for even the people who are willing to comply to change habits. Also I don't buy your statement about people eating a ban for this. That's like saying you can get banned for not thumbnailing images.

Deets is probably the best suggestion so far imo. I love how stupid it sounds.

Documenting/docs is the best one because it shortens down well. None of the other suggestions shorten well or - in the case of deets/receipts - work as verbs.

“He had her docs”
”I found the docs”
”Null documented Juju the Cow on the Mad At The Internet podcast”
”Documenting is based”

Spooooooky terms that (might) trigger glowies (but will probably just make ex-military and fanboys hard)
OSINT is my choice

  • Intelligence Community (IC): A term used to describe the collective group of agencies involved in intelligence activities. In the United States, it includes the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), National Security Agency (NSA), Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), and others.
  • HUMINT (Human Intelligence): A method of gathering intelligence through human sources. This involves recruiting and managing agents, conducting interviews, and other direct interactions with individuals who have access to valuable information.
  • SIGINT (Signals Intelligence): The interception and analysis of communications and other signals for intelligence purposes. This can include electronic, radio, and telephone communications.
  • IMINT (Imagery Intelligence): The use of photography and other imaging technologies to gather intelligence. This can involve satellite imagery, aerial photography, and other forms of remote sensing.
  • MASINT (Measurement and Signature Intelligence): The collection and analysis of technical data to identify and characterize targets. This can include radar, infrared, and other specialized sensors.
  • OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence): The process of gathering intelligence from publicly available sources such as the internet, media, and publications.
  • Counterintelligence: Efforts to protect against espionage, sabotage, and other intelligence activities conducted by foreign entities. This involves both defensive measures to protect sensitive information and offensive operations to disrupt enemy intelligence activities.
  • Covert Action: Secret operations conducted by intelligence agencies to influence events abroad. These can include political, economic, and military actions designed to achieve strategic objectives without revealing the involvement of the sponsoring government.
  • Cryptanalysis: The study of methods for obtaining the meaning of encrypted information without access to the secret information normally required. This involves breaking codes and ciphers to gain access to encrypted communications.
  • Reconnaissance: The act of exploring or surveying an area to gather information about it. This can be done through aerial, ground, or maritime observation and can be used to gather intelligence for military or other purposes.
