Dr. Phil - The Ethical Television Freakshow

the times i've seen the dr phil show I've usually enjoyed it. Are there archives anywhere to watch back episodes?

The Dick Masterson appearance on Dr. Phil is a timeless classic.
Hearing Dick talk about his appearance on the show was even better than the actual episode. He had to stay 100% in-character the entire time because he knew the show's staff was watching him like a hawk, and if he slipped up for even a second they'd play his fuckup on repeat for the whole world to see and send him back to hicktown with a big "GOTCHA!" branded on his ass.

You gotta have mad respect for a dude who can stay in character for that long with that many people watching him. Although I suspect by the end Dr. Phil started to suspect Dick was faking.

Anyone remember Bum Fights? A producer on the show was kicked off the show a few years ago. Dude may've been scum exploiting the homeless like that but I thought it was funny that he dressed like Dr Phil to troll him.

Also, Steven Assanti was on the House of Hatred mini series that Dr Phil hosted. There are clips of it floating around on YouTube but not the whole thing unfortunately.

"You exploit people on your show!"

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the majority of the Dr. Phil guests write in to the show? And even if the Phil crew ask them they still don't have to and its voluntary? Obviously they get a paycheck but they aren't forced.

I understand why people don't like the show and/or think it's all fake but you can't really call it exploitation, or at least lump it in with pulling crackhead's teeth out.

Just thinking, (sorry for necroing this thread) it just really seems that Dr. Phil's show can be easily exploited for clout and fame. If you look on his website, you can easily submit a form just to be on the show.

As so, if you can peak the producers interest with an attention grabbing story that will attract viewers, there's a slim chance that you might get on the stage.
With this, I can infer that most guests faked their stories on the form in order to appear on the show. I seriously wonder if any of his guests are just trolling him and his audience.

Yeah, Dick Masterson did exactly what you're describing. By the end, Dr. Phil caught on to what he was doing though, but told him to his face that it wasn't worth it because all of America is going to hate him now. If he's even remembered.

Some girl who licked toilet seats for clout also went on his show like three times but never managed to blow up because of it.

The episode with Shelly Duvall really made me dislike him. That was clearly exploitation of someone suffering from severe mental illness.

“But dey obbered her halp fur her cundition!” I can hear the autists bleating.

You still paraded a mentally unwell person around on tv and let her rave to get those sweet sweet ratings. You’re not in any way altruistic so shut the fuck up. This wasn’t some bratty teen or white trash hillbilly to laugh at like you see in Maury or Springer, this was just wrong.

I think it was important for people to see the stark, ugly reality that mental illness can inflict on a person. It wasn't pretty, it felt scummy, but it was an accurate reflection of reality.

Only time I think he ever truly screwed up was giving that munchie cunt Susan Scrohder a platform.
