Damn. This one hits. Dragonball Z was one of my first anime's as it was for many here, I'm sure. I watched the show, played the games, and had some toys. My little brother and I used to watch and play the games together. He was just 68. That's young especially for Japan where the average is about 80 something. I wonder what happens to the series now. They have that new one coming up but what about after that? Did he leave notes for family and friends if this were to happen? It's hard to believe he's already gone. This is almost like Kevin Conroy.

When greats like him die, I always take solace in the fact that his work will live on and he'll be thought of fondly for many decades to come.
In a few years, noones going to remember cows that die, fauci, biden, or any other contemporary retard. People will still love dragonball.

Supposedly he was working on several projects, so I am sure those will be finished up. I'm sure he was in talks with Toyotaro about the next arc, so I'd consider that to be the last canon arc, whatever it shapes up to be.
There's that Dragon Ball Daima webseries where everyone gets turned into kids coming out later this year, Toriyama seemed to be quite involved with that. I think the other project that is rumored is a continuation of the Super anime. From what I remember, Toyotaro said that Toriyama would go over anything he pitched and give him notes and pointers.

Daima is 100% toriyama influenced. Super manga & movies are toyotaro with toriyama giving pointers.

There's also an upcoming film iirc, but who knows how far along it was until his death, and how involved he was.

For films, I think the most he does is he designs new characters, and gives some general pointers/final say in certain ideas. He seems pretty lax about it too. I know for the original Broly movie, his character reference notes for Broly said that it didn't matter if his tail was included or not. Since the movies are canon now, maybe he has more input and involvement, but I'd only be guessing.

Was wondering if he or Tomino would go after Matsumoto, guess we know now. RIP to a legend and someone who made stuff that was a big part of many people's childhoods.

Kiwis, I'm putting together a team...

He became more involved with BoG and I think Super Hero was mostly him. If that was a continued trend then the next film's concept is his at least, and probably core details. The real issue is that probably wasn't coming until 2025 at the earliest, so it's likely just rough drafts.

This is shitty news to come back to. Like yeah, he was old, but this was way too sudden.

I hope he didn't feel pain, just got immediately knocked unconscious and slipped away to the Other World. I hope his family are okay.

Just heard the sad news when I was getting my pajamas on. It's heartbreaking as the OG DB was my first exposure to the series (and anime in general, though I was aware of Toonami), but at least I know I can catch up reading Dr. Slump over the weekend while Toriyama's on his way to King Kai. May he rest in peace, I can't thank him enough for influencing my own silly, pervy humor in life and in the arts. :feels:
