The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.

As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. I hardly believe EA is that bad of a company, to win such a prize for 2 years in a row. Also the guy received death threats too, apparently.

On a side note, Gaming has become too mainstream for my tastes. I never liked how it kept getting bigger and bigger after sony got in. This is just a side effect of that.
