I'd been using Mimic Tear as my "in case of annoying boss, break glass" summon for many, many playthroughs. But this time I was trying a dex build that mostly uses physical damage (with some occasional lightning) instead of my usual caster builds, so I thought I'd try using Stormhawk Deenh instead.

Turns out that bird really is the word. He spends a ton of time out of range of enemies while still holding their aggro, and many enemies have attacks that just utterly miss him, so he's effectively tankier than the mimic and plenty of fights end with him barely scratched. And that +20% physical damage and poise damage aura he gives you is legit. If you're not focusing on elemental damage and/or status buildup, he's a lot more fun than the mimic while needing less setup. I'm sure there are bosses with a ton of aoe spam and tracking projectiles that might hard counter, but those aren't that common.

Can't remember, does that damage stack with war-/battle cry, or does it count as a body buff (meaning: no stacking)?

But yeah I like the birb, one of the more fun ones. Unpredictable movement, might not get hit once, might get swatted down all the time.

You should give old Dung Eater a try. He spams Sword of Milos debuff + gets a gorillion poise doing his modded R2 after.
Also spams Regal Omen Bairn on zippy flying anime bosses. Chuck an agro pot and he goes absolutely bonkers.
Plus his Omen Bairn tracks like no one's business and does a metric ton of poise damage.
Now if you go all out and buff him he's an absolute monster.
I ran several low level twinks through DLC to completion and poopy boy straight carried em through with me cheesing everything via rot/poison pots and frost bite. Just heal him up from time to time with prayerful strike.
You just gotta deal with him yelling crazy talk constantly.
