I've been using the Zweihander and doing nothing but jumping heavy attacks. I wonder if I can recreate Giant Dad in Elden ring?

Played a little bit more. I was astonished that you can just run past the Twin Tree Sentinels and there's a bonfire with 2 great seeds right there. That is so against the design of previous Souls titles and I have no idea what to think of it.

Yeah you never run past shit in a From game, right
The only difference now is that something can get a boss health bar and not have the doors lock if you're somewhere with no doors. There's still plenty of roadblock bosses.
You can but not all the time for one. Two, you still have to know the lay of the land or you will get rocked by an ambush or strong enemy type. The later is rarely ever a thing in Elden Ring. That whole area leading up to Twin Sentinels is an obvious call back to Anor Londo. It was an uphill battle in that game figuring out patterns, how to deal with multiple enemies, figuring out which ones you can run by and hope there's a bonfire.

Meanwhile I ran by everything on a horse on my first try. This is not the same thing, nigga.

Bosses hold their item rather than having a chest behind them now.
You're running past minibosses for exploration rewards, not the boss rewards. In actual dungeons there are still plenty of minibosses and bosses guarding doors, and there are also overworld bosses you can escape from that are guarding doors too now. And there's even more alternate backroutes into areas (involving alternate dungeons and fighting different bosses instead) than before as well.
It's a game with more stuff added, not anything taken away, and you're looking for dumb excuses to be mad about getting two cakes.

I recommend anyone to get the Gold Scarab. It’ll give you 20% more runes and now I’m level 58.
You can find this at the end of the giant bridge after the three giants behind the teleporter do not go through it tho. Can get to this big bridge from storm castle a lion is guarding the entrance. Incidentally you can power godricks rune at the tower.

Magma Wyrm Makar was insanely easy. I think it took me 3-5 tries. Something like that. Just to learn the pattern and be aware of the insta kill bullshit. I didn't like that boss because it was just lazy. Someone at FROM was like "Let's just combine the spider and that giant lizard thing from just before you go to Blight Town in DS1 and boom. We have a boss!" Then there's that tree demon thing that moved like a snake and there's a poison bog and wheel of death before you face that boss. I'll be damned if I can remember all of the names because there's like 50 bosses. The tree demon thing seems like a tough fight but all you really have to do is charge in and stay close to the body and whale on it. Then be aware of when it jumps to the walls and ready to dive at you. That one took me about 5 tries.

The Black Knife Assassin can suck a fucking dick. What a stupid boss fight. The asshole can chain backstab you and the backstab does like 90% damage. The gimmick is stupid and I hate it. I didn't enjoy beating that boss. I used the cheese method where you get a weapon with a very wide swing, bait him to chase you by staring at the water, and swing wildly. A giant greatsword is best in that situation. But I hated that fight.

Getting to some dragon fights now.

And wtf do you do to get by the giant pot in Caelid?

Edit: I beat the Ancestor Spirit. Very easy fight and reprieve of Sif. The one thing I didn't like: you have to light pedestals in order to access the boss. Okay, if you explore you can find those things and it appears it does something so that part is fine. But, when you light all of the pedestals there is zero indication that the boss is active or where they're active. How about a cut scene or something telling you that you completed the task and the boss is over yonder? Dark. Souls. 1. Did. This. When you pull the lever after beating the spider and the gargoyles a cut scene plays that tells you what you did and what spot it affected.
I ran into what looked like the boss room before lighting all of them so I had an idea of where to go. Also you do at least get a text notification when all fires are lit but it is easy to miss.
By the way that area is beatiful

Damn i missed this one, thanks

The whole world design reminds me of the skeleton jelly comic, like you think you've explored everything but then you fall down into an inescapable abyss full of things you have not explored that also want yo kill you.

I kind of wish they would do that for a souls game where you start at a bottom level and you have to climb different levels of worlds and fight tooth and nail to free yourself from and you can be at risk to falling back down to a previous level.

Is there a second one because the one I got was in Caelid, in the Abandoned cave.

At level 51, 40 hours in, beaten Margit, Godrick and Rannala - I've started dual handing the rusted anchor and the great axe. One does piercing, the other strike. I think I've broken the game. As long as I get the first hit in with L1 which uses both weapons then I can stunlock all enemies and all bosses - so far - until my stamina runs out. I'm a complete and utter glass canon but my god is this a fun way to mash through every encounter. All my points have gone into STR, END and a wee bit of VIG. I love it so much.

Honestly, in previous souls games I'd have muddled my way through until finally looking up a guide on best build/weapon usage. With Elden Ring, I feel free to experiment and get the same satisfation of beating major bosses as I do from just working out what I can get away with and exploring every inch.

GOTY IMO, TTFN.

How the fuck do you switch the off-hand(left) to be empty? Do I have to go into the inventory and empty everything from that hand or go two-handed? I want to use the skill of the mainhand weapon.

Can you still use Barbaric Roar when Dual Wielding? because if so holy hell that is a pretty awesome combo.

If you talking about turning off the Shield Weapon Arte to use your weapons WA, in Limegrave west of the Stormhill shack is the Warmaster's shack. The guy there will sell you ashes if you say yes. There is a Ashes of "No Skill" and its only usable on Shields/Torches, it will turn off the off hands WA and you can use your primary weapon art, IF you were talking about shields.

It had a similar thing to 3 where the pillars lit up on the staircase before the fight. I liked it better this way, it felt less like holding my hand than it did in the swamp in 3.

Nice, thank you, it is the shield I'm talking about. Barrage with the shortbow is fucking sick btw. If I can put blood loss on it the game is over.

Yeah, you can apply war ashes to the right hand weapon so I have rusted anchor using BR. I also have that special flask increasing my STR and END when I chug it, plus the talsiman that boosts all stats in exchange for less vig and the one that boosts equip load so I can wear a bit of armour should an enemy get a lucky hit in. Worth trying out if you got the stats, and the gumption of course.

It feels like bosses are either a complete cakewalk or ball-stompingly difficult with literally no in-between. It's kind of exhausting, not sure how much I enjoy them so far.

Beat it on my first try, I don't think it hit me once. I just stayed under his belly or behind him the entire time. Bleed is op as fuck.

Have dropped at least 15 hours so far, so I'm not super far, but so far the game is fun. I don't think i've made any progress at all in a while, I keep wandering off to look for shines. So far I've found at least 3 or 4 areas I'm clearly not meant to be in and have been 1/2 shot. I'm having fun.

My biggest issue so far is I'm a fashion souls fag, and I haven't found any fucking armor not sold by a merchant, and it all looks big standard. Where's the good shit?

It was beautiful to look at. No doubt. I swear up and down that I did NOT get a text notification. Bug? Or did I just experience a DSP moment?
