I couldn't find a thread on the Endless Space series.

Been playing a lot of ES2 lately and while I have complaints mostly about diplomacy and AI consistency I really love these games. I mostly play as the United Empire.

Fuuuck I've played a lot of Endless Space. Just the other day I realized I hadn't played the first one since the second came out, so I fired it up. I enjoy it a lot more than Endless Space 2. Endless Legend has a lot of potential, but I never got the hang of it.

I wish I'd spent those 1000+ hours on the guitar instead.

I'm tempted to try out Endless Space 2, but there's literally ten versions of the fucking thing.

The only versions I've seen are Base game only, base game + some DLC, Base game + all DLC, and then the entire endless series.

anyone want to start a ES2 multiplayer game?

I tried ES2 after a Jewish immunologist 4ch /v/ youtuber did a review of it. 4X games are still something I'm trying to get used to, but ES2 is a good start besides some minor complaints (Multiplayer desyncs, the Awakening DLC, playing as the tree race). I really appreciate the lore and effort the devs put in the game before the Awakening DLC which was outsourced to a different studio.
My favorite strat when playing against AI was to play as the United Empire, piss the fuck out of Cravers to get them off my galactic lawn, form an alliance with them when they're on their last leg, never assist them with any fights (they were too scared to break the alliance), and race to win the game by score. Fuck Cravers.

Tried ES2 and EL and I think I'm just too retarded for 4X games. It just feels like I'm picking the wrong techs and colonizing the wrong worlds.

I'm by no means an expert at 4X but as a general rule it always go like this
-You start a game and inevitaby get stomped
-Rinse and repeat step 1, never winning but doing a little better each time
-eventually something clicks
-win most games going forward

Getting to step 4 is what makes and breaks 4X games for me because that is the point where I can start Larping people/factions from other media and is ultimately whereI have the most fun.

In general, I find that 4X games have quite a steep learning curve that give a lot players trouble as they tend to frontload you with a million and one things all at once. The best advice i can give is to stick with it for a bit and play the human faction as they are almost always the designated ez mode faction.

try playing vanilla without DLC. you'll miss some improvements here and there, but also much less choice that can overwhelm you (and you most of the time don't know the difference they make anyway).
personally I think EL is easier to get into, might wanna start with that.
