Like, you're a fat arrogant greasy neckbeard who thinks he's gonna get a girlfriend. Yeah, someone is delusional here, but I don't think it's the religious person.

I am actually disappointed that I didn't think to go that route! I'll have to steal that next time I run into one of these people.

The problem is that these atheist activists aren't really just promoting "atheism", in the generic sense of a "lack of belief in God", they're promoting secular Humanism, which is a specific ideology with a statement of core beliefs, and just branding it as "atheism, skepticism, free thinking", etc because they need some trendy slogans to market it to folks who are dissatisfied with conventional religion but still need to believe in something.

Basically it's just a replacement for conventional religion for latte-sipping hipsters who feel the need to be holier-than-thou about something.

I really love the conceit that some of these questions have never, ever been asked in two thousand years, but from what I've seen, most euphorics are too busy screaming into the void to crack open a fuckin' history book.
 
They're barking up the wrong tree on that flood thing. Multiple cultures DO have stories of a great flood which wiped out all but a few people, often with a boatful of animals too. Was there a real, historical flood which destroyed everything? No, but localized flooding in the wake of the last ice age was perfectly capable of wiping out whole towns, which was damn near the entire world to people back in the old days.

Pretty much, since I seem to remember the chapter prior has God creating other men; he created Adam though to be kind of a super-shepherd though, since I seem to recall he was the one who would name the animals God made.

There's a lot to shit on in the Bible, but dis ain't one of 'em.

This is why I'll never take these fuckfaces seriously, it's not hard to be a decent human being like I'm not a Buddhist or Hindu, but if I had a issue and someonbe who is Buddhist or Hindu says "I'll pray for you" I'll say the only two fucking words required in that situation: thank you

Wouldn't an "atheist prayer" essentially be "hoping"? As in, expressing a wish that a good outcome will arise from the current situation, regardless of probability? Isn't that the basis for hope, which is the basis for prayer?

If that's true, I don't see any reason an atheist couldn't "pray", even if they don't attribute or direct their "prayer" at any deity, but instead simply recognize that what they want is unlikely to happen, but they want it anyway.

And if that's true, there's no reason for an atheist to be upset at someone "praying for them", because regardless of their rationale, it's still something that should be seen as beneficial.
