I've been thinking of putting together a thread for the Fable series since I first heard rumors of Fable 4.

I got Fable TLC on Steam and am going to put some hours into it today. Anyone else here like Fable?

As a side note, if you want to play Fable on Steam, get the Lost Chapters version. It's a third the price of Fable anniversary and the graphics are way better. No controller support unfortunately, but third party programs exist for mapping so it's not an issue.

I enjoyed Fable but I think it's because I was reasonably immune to the hype surrounding it. I was given an xbox with the game as a birthday present completely out of the blue and had literally zero knowledge of it prior to playing. It's like most of the balding twats games, good if taken in isolation. When Fable 2 was announced I was older and aware that 90% of what Frenchy spouted was likely to be bullshit and therefore preordered the game and ignored every scrap of marketing. Again, I have fond memories of it. Same for 3.

I've fond memories of Fable 2 and 3, I remember in Fable 3 being able to side-step the second act morality decisions by going full Trump with the real-estate system.

Fable was a great game. Fable 2 was meh. Fable 3 I avoided like herpes.
Honestly, the real problem behind any of Peter Molyneux's games is Peter Molyneux. Fucker can't keep himself from promising shit he'll never deliver and generally just can't shut the hell up when he needs to.

Now, as to future Fable titles... meh, I might try them if they're not the abortion 3 was with a lot of it's systems. Bring back actually being able to die making Resurrection Phials useful again, return the magic system to one more similar to the first game so you don't just spam the fuck out of it, that kinda stuff.

Frankly I'd LOVE to direct my own damn game. Fable Legends: Reaver. You play as Reaver, obviously, as he finally finds himself unable to withstand his nightmares and guilt any longer and goes on a path of, well, maybe not redemption but certainly one of revenge against the Shadow Court. The ending of the game, and Reaver's final destination in the afterlife, are directly impacted by the moral choices you make, some of which would absolutely not be as black and white as they were in the originals.

I actually never knew about the hype for the original Fable at the time, so it surprised me to learn years after playing the game about all of the controversy surrounding Peter Molyneux's broken promises. It's one of my favourite RPGs largely for the art direction, sound and storytelling which has that really unique and special fairy tale quality I don't think the sequels captured.

Fable 2 was forgettable. Fable 3 sucked hard and was when I fully realised why most people thought Molyneux was a piece of shit.

Go for it, let people who enjoy the series talk about it.

I didn't get into the Fable hype, but I was never that interested in the games. I can see why they have their fans, but I just found them pathetically easy, completely devoid of any real strategy or challenge. That's my one big gripe. The world and the characters were interesting enough (loved Stephen Fry as Reaver) but it wasn't enough to really hook my interest.

None of them could optimize the late game for shit. That said just walking around and double fisting chain lightening like Emperor Palpatine and tur n everything to ash in fable 1 was it's own brand of fun while buying the entire kingdom using the money I earned from busking with a ukelele in fable 3 also had it's own appeal. The games are fun if you turn your brain off.

Loved Fable and Fable 2. Fable 3 was alright but I wish the sanctuary wasn’t a feature. It was slow and clunky, which is why they tried to get rid of menus in the first place. I still fire up Fable 2 from time to time.

Fable 2 was my favourite, it was swashbuckley.

The Red Dragon (or a properly augmented master clockwork rifle) can basically cut everything down like wheat, and it's great.

3 was alright, but I didn't like the camera so much.

I feel bad for Fable 3. Something about it is almost great. It's missing something, somewhere between the story and artstyle. The music has always been great but Fable 3 has by far the best track out of the entire series:

I like this series pretty good, I replayed Fable 2 back in 2017 as a matter of fact.

Yeah, it's the easiest game ever made, but the fairy tale atmosphere is still great and the feeling of choice is still interesting.

I'd definitely like to see a 4th game someday.

Fable holds such a special spot in my heart. It was my first ever RPG and defined my taste in games. While I know now that it really wasn't anything special, it has such an un-matched charm. I fear that any future games won't have that.

Fable 2, in my opinion, is such a tragedy, It's a great game, but the only way to play it is the buggy and broken 360 version. If ever a game deserved a remaster, it's Fable 2.

I played a lot of Fable back on the original Xbox when I was a kid. I loved it at the time and rebought it recently. Main story is crap but it's still a charming game.

So I ended up playing six hours of Fable 2 last night whilst I waited for Transport Fever 2 to trickle down my garbage internet. Good times. I always forget just how dependent on disc access that game is, constantly. My poor, aged, Xbox Elite sounded like it was trying to grind rocks.
