This sounds like BS. Is it really in the GDPR that you can't tell someone that isn't you to archive the data of a website you run?

He's really claiming that rather than making a static archive, he'd really need to keep the entire site online, off limit to posting, just to be able to delete posts should past users be wanting to DFE? What is the legal precedent for this?

I can think of PLENTY of places that banned multiple people for even the littlest things. Sonic Retro being one of them, especially when Tweaker used to be the admin there, and this was between 2006 to 2012.

If you want to go for something not so popular, I can name a fuck-ton of DDR/StepMania related forums that did this constantly.

Garry trying to act like that was the best course of action. I was there two or so years ago and to me it looked like he couldn't give less of a shit about the forum anymore, so he decided to fuck with the users with constant "Gee maybe I will close the forums now!"
Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the moderation had a collective meltdown over Garry's flipfloping and that's what caused him to finally pull the plug?
Fucking hell, I need to monitor this more closely now to see if some of the jannies are as butthurt as back then.:story:

Sure, its not wrong to say people are resentful for how the forums were handled in the shut down, but the treatment of users on FP at times could get pretty bad and I think that is also a source for a lot of remaining bitterness. I mean just look at Hezzys behavior - an adult and police officer - acting like a twelve year old in the other thread. He certainly hasn't grown up. And Garry's tendency to be an ass with abrupt bans wasn't something new or happened late in the forums life. People just wanted to post and be left alone without being harassed or walking on eggshells, or having their part of the forum removed on a whim. Don't think much has changed in that regard. Its easy to say things were different back in the day, though being a dick is a fairly universal behavior that people don't like. There is no point in staying angry, but I don't think the bad taste will ever be gone. Sugarcoating what happened is just silly.

I swear all of these "yeah man I'm totally over it. I still respect u garry " come off as massive cucks, at least there are some who are still calling him out (and rightfully so) that he is taking this attitude since he is not in a position of power anymore.
Lastly I saw pedo stuff being mentioned, did Garry or one of his goons claim that knockout was full of pedos?

It's running Discourse, the worst possible way to evolve on phpBB: by making it dependent on Markdown for posts and JavaScript for everything else.

Fun fact: certain posts automatically get sucked into Markdown's braindead syntax, turning complete sentences like "7." into a list starting with "1.".

The main issue with knockout is , in my eyes , the fact all the long time facepunch users moved to discord instead of knockout. The only 2 people i remember seeing on knockout from face punch was i think TheDevilsOwn and Damik. SInce they all moved all you got were the newbies who turned it into the worst forum online.

It always was, at least from my (brief) experience. I remember even way back when TF2 was still new how the faggot forum mods would ban you for the stupidest most arbitrary reasons. That place was Resetera before Resetera. Don't know if it's as packed to the gills with as many groomers/pedophiles as Era is, though.

I'm actually curious. I used to have Beetle on my friend list, guess he deleted me. My memories of him are foggy at this point, just how much of a shitstain is he?

Wasn't Inacio (the gay brazilian man who got called monkey nigger), a long time user? I'm sure he was one of the main people working on knockout but not sure what happened to him, don't seem to spot him anywhere on the forums whenever I check them, granted I don't lurk there often. If I recall he had been in the forums since 2009, unless if by long time user you mean those there since 2006-2007.
