On KO, however, the ratings issue is that "nobody should thing this is funny or disagree with this POV, period because it makes this space less safe".

One was to keep the forums on topic, the other is to protect feelings.

I do genuinely feel sorry for these people on a human level, but at the same time they often bring it on themselves. They think the world is all sunshine & rainbows and that everyone will accept them for who they are. Like in a Disney movie. But the real world simply isn't like that and by the time they realise it's already too late. There's a reason why most people lay low and try not to stick out, because of this exact scenario. Trying to make everyone around you, strangers included, treat you in a very specific way is just a recipe for disaster.
