That was eleven years ago. There are very few people who haven't yet sworn lifelong devotion to one side or the other at this point. A right-winger getting blown away isn't going to flip the ideological stances of any left-winger overnight, and at no point in this whole shitshow have I seen much in the way of actual issues and policies being brought up, so I doubt there's going to be much in the way of movement among the center aside from the immediate mirage of outrage and hysteria directly following the incident since nothing's actually being discussed. It's all been sports team shit: one side jumping around and slapping their ass at a perceived "own", the other side seething and calling them animals to be slaughtered, and both sides continuing to vouch for the other side's absolute genocide until this generation finally completely dies out around the turn of the 22nd century (if humanity even fucking makes it that long).

It's business as usual. Not even George Floyd's murder ended up having any long-term ramifications, and that had people out in the fucking streets for months. I can't see Charlie Kirk's surprise hickey doing much more for global discourse in the long run than when Lowtax took the pussy's way out of paying wifebeater alimony.

I think it is, not in the realm of the internet but in real life yeah. You need to keep in mind almost everyone on the internet is deranged and a psychopath, their opinions will never be changed.
The average joe who isn't terminally online sees someone get assassinated while speaking at college on the news, followed by a bunch of deranged leftists celebrating and gets turned off by the optics of that alone. I do firmly believe it is this exact kind of behavior that made a lot of people get sick of the left in 2024 that led to Trumps Victory. Seeing them double down on it by dancing on Kirk's grave and acting like he was some horrific evil monster that deserved to be put down like that is going to put people off.


On the Internet, you're only going to see the black and white because the crazies are the most vocal. But keep in mind they're also an extreme minority of the population.
 
I absolutely doubt Maddieringtail or Abyssmyriad leave the house and put out loud rackets of lunacy so at least you wont find that sort of degenerate offline

Not on issues, but culturally and that matters more. Can you really look at Knockout type people and say these are "my people" or "my side"? Do you really think these people will push through social reform over culture war nonsense?
 
No, they emphatically aren't my people, but the left is indeed my side, and I resent how this side is considered "theirs" now, because it most certainly isn't. I, as an actual leftist, utterly renounce them. Many of these assholes, if you needle them just right and manage to peel back the layers of obfuscation, are very much right-wing underneath. They're rainbow right-wing. The "might makes right, fuck-you-got-mine, we are the master race" philosophy permeates their entire ideology. Just replace "white" with "trans" in any alt-right manifesto and see how similar it is to their own tirades. Fuck, many of these assholes are the type of spineless pussies who might've ended up Proud Boys in another life, but got spooked by Gamergate and so changed tack in "atonement" to hide from their pasts because they thought the right's days were numbered. But now they're in too deep to turn back, so they have to commit to the bit.

Look, at the risk of going TMI/no1curr: I'm a "Star Trek" leftist. What leftism is to me is that regardless of race, creed, ability, faith, sex, orientation, etc., everyone deserves equal opportunity or at the very least a baseline level of comfort, and that the best way to do that is via public organizations who manage common pools of resources and are beholden to the public at large rather than private interests: in other words, governments. Entities whose purpose is to help people with what they can't do themselves. The technology and infrastructure of the modern age have delivered unto us such a world of plenty and yet so many people have no access to what they fundamentally need despite the sheer abundance, all because of the sort of right-wing fuckers who've twisted the notion of "meritocracy" into "I have 'merit' and you don't because I'm in the position to make the rules, therefore I deserve to completely own you and you deserve nothing" and rig the system toward their own enrichment at the expense of everyone else. And why? Because they subscribe to this nihilistic, ruthless survival-of-the-fittest worldview which treats reality as a zero-sum game which by necessity must have winners and losers.

Fuck that noise. Make no mistake, I have no love for the right wing, at least not the figureheads who preach that shit. Those guys are absolute fucking poison. I ain't dancing on Kirk's grave, but I sure as shit am not surprised someone took the shot. But the constituents? They can't help it, they just go by what they've been told. They deserve nothing but empathy and compassion towards their own very real struggles, not least of which is because that's the only true way to win them over. Again, everyone deserves a happy life.

And at least in theory, that baseline would include even this fucking rainbow cult by default. All the troons and enbies? The furfags? If they're not bothering anyone, let them do their thing. Just far away from me or polite company, please. The problem is, they are fucking bothering people. And when you strip away their fabricated "I'm Lilith, the harmless dripping-snout kobold succubus uwu" cutesy demeanor and provoke them into going mask-off, they're the exact same fucking creatures inside as any alt-right debate bro: "I'm better than you. Kneel before your superior." Same exact bullshit but waving the opposite flag. But they've got that superficial leftist appearance and act like absolute fucking assholes, and so people think that's what the left wing is, and so move to the right out of spite. This culture war isn't "left vs. right", it's "cowards vs. right". Actual leftists like me have been completely ignored for a decade if not more by this point.

The "Left" by and large doesn't actually exist in the West. It was mortally wounded with the fall of the Soviet Union and given the coup de grâce by the crushing of the Occupy Wall Street protests, where capitalists figured out that by pushing social issues into the forefront, they can effectively crush any and all threat against themselves.

Most self-proclaimed leftists you see online are really just Social Democrats and Neoliberals. They pose no real threat to capitalists because they've been domesticated to only propose teeny tiny steps towards economic equity, while focusing 95% of their effort on social aspects like gender, sexuality or skin color. These latter issues don't affect profit motives, and in fact can even be exploited through rainbow capitalism. And more importantly, these issues allow capitalists to drive wedges into any organization that actually threatens their wealth accumulation. See the recent incident with Sultana and Corbyn in the UK, which was once again primarily about gender. The party is dead before it even officially launched.

That's the sad thing about Knockout. They think they are rebels by being sexually deviant, they focus all their efforts on this one topic, and by doing so they play right into the hands of the ruling class.
