There's no need for Factorio to ever go on sale because it's insanely easy to pirate, the devs know this and know that anyone autistic enough to enjoy the game is probably autistic enough to care about the Steam Achievements too so will buy it so their accomplishments matter.

The biggest reason to buy the game it's the mods.

You can pirate them but it's kinda of a pain in the ass to ask around for updated mods.

That’s not what I meant and I wasn’t quoting you anyway. People like to talk about “having spine”, “don’t be a cowardly whore”, and ”standing up for pricinples”, but it’s only “courageous/commendable” when it‘s beliefs they already agree with. If someone is say, unapologetically communist then I doubt they’d be considered “brave”.

Gotta say, this situation isn't completely clean. Kovarex's initial reaction could've been better, and his use of the official twitter to dunk on others is not the best look.

The mods are paywalled. You have to have a valid copy of the game to get a login for the mod database (in-game and online), so you can't search, download or update mods in-game without a legit copy. And you want that if you want mods; doing it by hand is a pain in the ass (dependencies, finding "unofficial" sources for mods, manually tracking updates, etc.).

I downloaded the game after the drama and I seriously thought it was autistic as hell. It is about managing resources and product lines, and of course you can build trains.

I played 40 minutes and got really bored.

The game is autism in digital form, much like minecraft but with a top down view.

it's a game for men who love programming/engineering type problem solving so much that even after spending all day at their programming or engineering job they're still not satisfied, so when they get home from work they boot up factorio and do some more problem solving until they fall asleep
