I'm bored. So instead of doing something productive, I decided I wanted to make some lolcow characters in The Outer Worlds and see how they do. The problem is I don't own The Outer Worlds and I'm too lazy to pirate it, so Fallout New Vegas it is!

If you haven't played Fallout: New Vegas. The game is a first person post apocalypse RPG. It's considered a classic due to allowing for a number of decisions and character builds. This isn't like Mass Effect where choices are limited to telegraphed "yes/no" "good/evil" decisions, or Fallout 4 where the quests are an excuse to send you dungeon crawling. Depending on your character build, you can talk your way out of problems, kill important NPCs, or ignore the main quest entirely.

I will be playing a fairly vanilla game of New Vegas. I don't use many mods. I will be using a fan patch, a mod that integrates the DLC into the main game, and a mod that removes the orange filter from the camera. I installed Warzones for more combat, but so far it's disappointing.

I thought about installing other mods, but I'm too lazy to install New Vegas Script Extender and a mod manager.

THE LOLCOW: MOVIEBOB
I was going to have Kiwi's vote on who I should play from a list, but I made Moviebob as a test and decided to stick with it.

The build is as follows. No charisma because he's abrasive, no agility because he's fat, and no endurance because he once had to go to hospital for "exhaustion" while attending a convention. I didn't know I'd already made a mistake here that I'll get to later. That left us with a lot of points to spend. I maxed out luck since that's not tangible, but with lots of points left over I decided to invest points based on Bob's delusions of himself. I made him strong (he claims to be able to bench 300lbs), smart, and put a few points into perception because where else was I going to put them?

Next was his 3 tag skills. I tagged guns because Bob claims to be a decent shot with a revolver. I tagged survival. Bob claimed to be able to survive in the wilderness with only a knife, but I chose this for another reason I'll get to at a later date. And I tagged energy weapons because I had to tag 1 skill and didn't know what to pick. Bob is all about the "superior future" so it made sense.

Finally, the traits. I picked Four Eyes and Hot Blooded because Bob wears glasses and has anger issues.

And here he is. CinemaRobert.

I think the character looks more like Andrew Dobson than MovieBob, but it'll do.

THE GAME BEGINS
The game begins with Bob being shot in the head by Benny. Off to a great start already. Bob survives and begins a quest for revenge that will result in him getting dragged into a 3 way war for Hoover Dam if I continue this Let's Play.

I started off by selling all the starting armor except for the medium metal armor. This was a mistake I'll get to later.

After raiding the abandoned school for some extra starting supplies and grabbing the snow-globe from the graveyard, I decided to see if I could remember the shortcut to The Strip. For those who don't know, New Vegas is an open world RPG. From the start there is a shortcut that leads to the main city of the game. The path is patrolled by several high level monsters, but if you know the right rout you can bypass them with little trouble. This allows you to skip the first several hours from the game. There's videos of how to do this on YouTube if you want to know how to do it. After a couple of attempts, I made it.

However, Bob soon found his dreams of joining the cities elites dashed when they wouldn't let him in to the city without either 2000 caps (the games currency) or a passport. Neither of which he had. He demanded the robot let him pass. He is THE MovieBob after all, but the machine didn't move. What was he going to do?

THE WASTELAND
Bob left the strip. He didn't want to lower himself to being a security guard or joining a gang. Then he saw his arch nemesis. Farmers. He tried to rob them blind, but was foiled by a door lock. He was then attacked by some raider gangs. Their weapons were worth enough to pass the credit check. All he had to do was find some rich vendors and sell them, but then the game crashed. No expensive guns for Bob.

That last paragraph made up what felt like about an hour or 2 of game play. It's here I explain the big mistakes I made at character creation. Bob has an agility score of 2. Walking speed is determined by your agility and the kind of armor you're wearing. As a result, Bob moves at the speed of continental drift. The Fallout wiki says the game is wrong and agility doesn't effect movement speed, but that means New Vegas is slower than I remember. He also draws and reloads his weapons in slow motion. At first I thought it was glitch, but no, it's because his agility score is so low. What's worse is that I planned for Bob to use revolvers, which are some of the slowest weapons to reload in the game.

Another problem might be the warzone mod. Maybe not being able to change the load order is causing problems, but I was hoping for battles all across the wastes. As it is, the minutes of running through an empty brown desert are still present and still boring.

NOVAC
It took around 20 minutes according to the in game timer, but Bob finally made it to Novac. A small town with a T-Rex statue and gift shop. Bob liked this as it reminded him of the Nintendo movie The Wizard. It might even be the same statue for all I know. They are both set in California.

It was a nice enough town except for the two Republican snipers in MAGA hats guarding the city. His conversations with them did not go well, but it didn't come to blows. Bob did learn some ghouls (not the mayonnaise kind) had taken over the REPCONN rocket test site. Bob could not let this stand and stormed out of town to fix the problem.

Following the road, he soon he met NCR Ranger Milo who told him he couldn't go any further.

Bob demanded to be let past, but Milo claimed he never heard of him.

"Who are you?"
The words escalated, with Milo threatening Bob. Bob used his diplomatic acumen to make the situation worse, causing Milo to draw his gun and open fire. Robert pulled out his Grenade Rifle and returned fire, killing Milo and his soldiers. Bob was injured, but survived. Nothing a Doctor Bag and some snacks couldn't fix.

After a quick chat with some Legion members, I realized I went the wrong way after leaving Novac and had to double back.

TO BE CONTINUED?
Which faction do you think Bob should side with? He'd never side with NCR. Working class, red hats, they even have "republic" in their name. Plus he's blown up 3 of them already. House fits his ideal for a technocratic elite to rule, and Yes Man would allow him to make the wasteland in his own image and be a shorter play-through. Siding with the Legion is a stretch, but they do kill and torture people Bob doesn't like.

I don't know if this Let's Play will be completed. Bob's slow movement speed and New Vegas' instability might make it more effort than it's worth. I don't like it when I get invested in an ongoing series and the author abandons it, so I'm letting you know that if I get bored it's going in the trash. I'll try to keep you updated.

Bob already has extensive history with the whole "latch onto the most retrograde and vile people imaginable and pretend that they are achtchully the real true woke vanguard of the superior future because they hate who he hate, even when he knows they are raping and abusing women" so I dont think its a stretch at all that he would try to join up with them...

.....its just a major fuckin stretch that they wouldnt kill him on the spot out of principle. Survival of the fittest and all that

C'mon we all know that the move bob would make is

Betray house, and use the robots to subjugate everyone into an authoritarian hellscape because only HE knows the true path to the future.

Bob should make everyone in the wasteland his enemy. Maybe do a few missions for a faction and then shoot the leader the minute they say something that doesn’t align with his views.
LP should end with him dropping the two nukes because the two fractions don't align with his views.
