Considering the recent shitstorm that blew into the Keffals thread I had an idea to maybe reduce the number of idiotic, derailing posts in featured threads.
My suggestion would be when a thread is featured, or if the mods see it's just getting flooded with inane posts, make an extra step before a post can be added. I'd suggest a dialogue box that comes up and reiterates the forum guidelines with some kind of added verbiage like this:
This thread has recently been featured on the front page and is experiencing higher than normal volume. In addition to normal posting guidelines please agree to the following before posting your comment:
1) Don't ask questions that have already been answered. At least go through the thread's highlights before posting.
2) You're not a mod. If you disagree with someone's post use the stickers, if you think the post is somehow against the site's rules use the Report button.
3) This thread is not about you, don't comment unless you have new information to add.
Not saying it should necessarily be this exactly, just kind of threw an example together based on existing guidelines and random comments from forum staff.
The way I see this working the person would type out their comment and then hit Post Reply, then the dialogue box with the above message (or whatever message the mods decide is appropriate) pops up and the user has to click on a second Post Reply button which acts as confirmation they've read the "please don't shit up the happening thread" warning.
So when someone starts sperging in a thread like that, well, they've already been warned with the disclaimer they had to agree with to add their post. If they're too stupid to read something before agreeing to it then maybe they've earned a pink triangle.
I searched to see if this suggestion had been made before but didn't see that it had, so apologies in advance if I'm late, gay and blind. Also apologies in advance if this idea is waaaaaaaaay too much work not enough payoff.
