Hallo, hallo!!

Everyone has people who left an everlasting impression on them. Generally they are real people, like parents, friends or celebrities and historical/political figures.

But sometimes, even the realm of fiction can give us characters that for their role and qualities, leaves an impression on us and actually makes us improve aspects of our life based on that.
That doesn't mean living in a fantasy: it means taking inspiration from elements of fiction to productively improve our personality and the quality of life for ourselves and those around us.

Laugh if you wish, but John McClane from Die Hard.

I always liked the fact that he was just an ordinary guy with believable personal flaws who could nevertheless persevere and triumph against hopeless odds because he cared so much about surviving long enough to be there for his family. It's a pretty cheesy plot device, if you really think about it, but Bruce Willis portrayed the character so well, and so convincingly.

It's a pity that the more recent sequels haven't lived up to the original in this regard.

Winston Wolf.

Being the guy who shows up and knows exactly what to do to get shit done. Blunt, to the point, and no nonsense. It has (mostly) worked too. Guys will be on some shitty jobsite that is all fucked up and call the office all worked up about it. I'll overhear and grab another line and say I am on my way out to fix it. I can hear the relief/fear in their voices. However, if they drag me away from my priorities over something they should have been able to handle on their own there will be hell to pay. They usually aren't wrong but it's good to keep them scared. It keeps them motivated to find their own solutions.

Ellen Ripley. When I'm by myself and things get messed up (camping and the fire won't start, car breaking down in the middle of nowhere, locked out of house/car at 3am.) I always think of Ellen Ripley, and how giving up is never an option. (also how she was right about not letting the crew back on the Nostromo, and to stick to your guns when you're in the right, even if your boss is yelling at you.)

Raymond J Johnson Jr. inspired me with his wisdom. Because you doesn't has to call him Johnson.

I don't have to call you by your last name. I can call you by your first name, or your middle initial, I can call you by your first and second initials, or all three initials! But I don't have to call you by your last name.
