Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

I've been thinking about playing again since there's a couple of expansions out, if you decide on a server I might join. I dunno if transfers still cost money but I may just make a new character anyway.

Well, if we get some more people we can all decide on a server together

We'll also have to decide on a name, and I guess we should make a discord chat together

Some of the waiting queues since storm blood came out have been awful. I've seen 2000+ people waiting at peak time on Cerberus, I decided to go online as soon as I got home from work (just before 4pm) the queue was just shy of 800.

Yeah it's been bad lately

I think we'll have to wait a bit till we do anything. Which is okay since we'll have time to get some more people. There are server "censuses" out there, and since we're going to be our own thing we should just pick a low-population one

Never played FF XIV. I've been a WoW player for a long time, but between burnout and the generally exceptional state of the player base, I think I may retire. What's FFXIV like?

I started playing FFXIV from WoW. I switched towards the beginning of Mists so I'm not too familiar with WoW as of late. Yet the combat from what I remember is a bit slower (but speeds up late game) than WoW and a lot more proactive. You'll see where spells will land from enemies and have to react to that in a lot of different ways eventually. Also the story is a huge part of FFXIV, the story is required to unlock new zones, dungeons, raids and end game content. The story can be good and bad at times, but it gives a general purpose when leveling. But the graphics and music are my favorite parts of the game, with so many throwbacks to the previous Final Fantasy games, and some great original scores.

On topic though; I'm just now starting my own FC with a good friend, but I'd be happy to help with raids and stuff through the cross world party finder.

I haven't played WoW in a long while either, but there are some things I prefer in FFXIV over WoW

For one, you can only create one character per server unless you want to pay extra per month, but you can take on as many classes as you want. And some of those classes level up with each other. For example, on my current character, I pplay two main classes that when I gain a level on one, the other gains a level as well.

The community is usually fairly friendly, if sometimes very weeb-y. Depending on the server you might have some idiots roleplaying in the major cities, but it usually isn't too bad if you stay out of the roleplaying servers.

You can also customize your gear really nicely, if you're into that sort of thing.

And playing with people you know is good, because when you hit a dungeon, if you have three other people at a certain level who are available, you can just run through the dungeon with them instead of waiting in a queue. However, playing with randoms has never been bad in my experience.

Some of the quests are kinda fetch quest-y, but the main quest is pretty fun to play, and you can do it at your own pace which is nice.

All in all, I prefer it, but I know it's not for everyone

Used to play XIV. It was a pretty good mmo, but I'd take breaks and come back to find that I fell behind in weapons, gear, ect. If I were to play again, I wouldn't mind starting a new character. Always dug NIN and was told I did it well.
In any case, I hope you guys do get an FC going and get a good FC plot and house.

I have a smattering of characters across several servers. Since queue times for my main server are insane right now, I've been spending more time with my alts. I suppose I wouldn't mind joining a Kiwi FC, but I dunno how badly I'd want to start over again. I'd probably move one of my alts over if it's on one of the free transfer eligible servers.

The Mateus server has been pretty quick. That might change if more people discover how quiet it is, but it's also a lot easier to get into then other servers.

We can start a FC with a minimum of 4 people

I have no real preference for a server, so that's something that will need to be decided

This site
has a list of all the servers, and they're updated pretty regularly if anyone wants to look

I might be interested if I can get the game cheaply enough, it's been awhile since I've had people to MMO with.

This sounds neat.

As for server, I suggest Diabolos. Seems to have a generous amount of people in it.

I've already got 2 characters on Diabolos so that's handy, it'd be cool to play with some kiwis.

Okay! I think we have at least enough people to start it, so I'll start a character there. We should create a Discord for it, just to have a little center for communication, and if anyone wants to join in the future, we'll let them in

I hear a lot of people have been moving from various online games to FFXIV lately. Due to BFA, FO76, Anthem, Wildstar shutting down etc etc.
