I think age is a factor, but also motivation for creating should be considered. With this kind of weird shit, there's no motivation to actually improve their style. They just draw, whack-off, and draw some more. The only real progression will be from one fetish, or degree of fetish, to the next. To imagine that these "artists" can progress is like imagining that reading porn magazines is progression towards reading the great works of western civilisation. There's a very, very thin connection to FiM in fluffy "lore" but it is mostly its own thing now. Some people put FiM lookalikes in their comics but they bare little, if any, resemblance to their canon counterparts and, like most fluffies, exist only to suffer.

One guy made a comic series on a Rainbow Dash fluffy. It was acutally really well drawn and attempted to have a story with minimal gore. I dunno where he was going with it though. Again, it bore practically no similarity to the show other than the names of a few characters.
