You are not free from consequences of speech. Sure, you’re allowed to air your grievances in the Gold Square of DC, but do not be shocked if there are consequences. Free speech does not give you the freedom to speak harmful opinions against the government as you’ll hurt the MAGA people’s feelings. There needs to be greater repercussions for disagreeing with the administration, ideally starting with cancellation, then we can move onto public executions.

I would care more but my concerns were dismissed with the Hunter Biden / Social Media Cover up.

It's quite obvious that for those that are liberal only the old left cares about free speech anymore and anytime else it's just to be trotting out in a contextual manner.

The thing is, free speech only works in a civilized, rather monocultural society that actually values dialogue and understanding.
The assassination of Kirk, a free speech debatebro was the watershed moment that one half of the country realized the other one is not interested in either.

This is obviously in bad faith and I am not from a country that has free speech (but I'm a live and let live type in general) but am concerned about it in the US because of the ramifications it has on the Internet, that said, most of this just seems like a mix of people deciding in 2016 or so that your employer has full control over your personal life and opinions for some reason and the pendulum swinging back and forth. This is gonna swing back in like three or four years because this is just how things are now I guess. It's a shame this is a troll thread, the proposed legislation and narratives around free speech are genuinely troubling, even if I personally think limits around it are justified, that is not how the US works.

On this specific issue of free speech, especially with the arms race of escalating rhetoric, you would have more success being less provocative.

When you are speaking on behalf of corporate entities you do not get free speech. Ditto if you have a government job that requires impartiality (judge) or you speak on it with a company account (discord tranny).

Your speech, as long as it doesn't hurt other people's rights (example private information) or national security, should not be affected by either government or companies. But it is individuals are free not to associate with you for it.

So if Kimmel was to opine on behalf of ABC a private company why should FCC Chairman Carr be allowed as an individual to force a company’s hand in how they handle an employee? It’s blatant abuse of government power and a violation of the constitution.

I think he's talking about stuff like the proposed hate speech and antisemitism laws, which should be unconstitutional but there's an undercurrent of disliking the constitution by psueds right now.

Because they aired blatant disinformation on their channel. At the very least it's not freedom of speech issue.

THAT'S THE THING, they skirt around lying by having a comedian say it and then excusing it by saying it was a joke/opinion.

If it was something he said on his Twitter/Bluesky account you'd have a point. But not on a national TV when it was likely quoted out of a teleprompter.
