Furi - Touhou May Cry

I really enjoyed it, one of my favorites. Been meaning to go back and do a hard mode run sooner or later. The devs released a free little demake of the game's first boss last year which I thought was pretty fun. Would rather they expand that into a full game or do a full-on sequel rather than whatever the fuck Haven was supposed to be.
Favorite boss is still probably The Edge. "We are what we repeatedly do."

One of my favorite original IP's in over a decade. One of those games that flirts with a certain level of perfection.

it makes me wish more big name EDM artists would make game soundtracks.

I don't dislike Cyberpunk 2077's soundtrack but it was disappointing to me that they used film-style composers instead of tapping any one of the million badass artists in the synthwave scene. Carpenter Brut, Dance With the Dead, Midnight Danger, Scandroid, Android Automatic, Volkor X, Mega Drive... hell, check out NewRetroWave and take your pick. games like Katana Zero, Ghostrunner, Hotline Miami, even Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon all have great soundtracks that elevate the game and stay noticed long after the game itself has faded from short-term memory. Cyberpunk's soundtrack is, well, it's nice in the game sometimes, I guess.

anyway, Furi is aight.

Played it a few years ago, liked it well enough to replay on higher difficulty and never played it again. I enjoyed all the bosses except for the Beat (too boring) and the Star (shitty design). What stuck with me was the great OST that I still come back to from time to time even though it's not something I would usually listen to. I think all the tracks match their respective fights pretty well and You're Mine is perfect for the Burst's fight. A shame Love and Madness is not accompanied by any fight as it's my favorite piece on it's own.

Furi is the kind of game that you either hate or love.
I don't understand what those fucking fr***hs were thinking with the star tho, it's just dogshit.
A lot of people do not like the line too, but I think it's not that bad if you charge your shot, the final boss tho is unforgiveable.
Introducing a new mechanic to fight a single boss is something is rarely a good idea, and in this case is nothing but a complete trainwreck.
The phases are slow, boring and the final one in particular is tedious, the fact that a pure bullet hell boss is so bad when compared to the pure melee boss (the edge) being the absolute best says all. Don't get me wrong, I played Furi specifically for the bullet hell part, the Star simply has shit patterns and the change in the controls aren't gonna help either.
Finally, I kinda wish they used the Voice's model for Bernard, it would've been perfect.

Edge a shit because the melee is shallow as fuck.
The bullet hell parts have many different patterns and boss battle gimmicks while all the melee bits are "memorize the combo pattern and stay out of the pie slice"

I liked Furi a lot. It cuts right to the chase and doesn't attempt to do mediocre exploration like every Souls game, Sekiro, God of War and Elden Ring.
