As an Ameritard, I know fuck all about soccer so this is probably an obvious take. However, I watched this game because Croatia appears to be a team of actual Croatians and not a team cobbled together from other continents. So as a new observer with very little soccer knowledge, a couple of things jumped out at me. Correct me if I'm wrong.

First, Croatia seemed to me to know that they couldn't match Brazil for speed so they really dialed up the ball control and positioning, essentially relying on a game of keep away. They also looked like they couldn't get a decent shot on goal past Brazil's defenders and so 10 minutes in to the game it seemed obvious to me that they were aiming for a 0-0 game to be decided in penalties.

Second, they knew they had the better goalkeeper and that in penalties the disadvantage the team had in speed and defense, wouldn't matter. They knew their advantage was pretty much only in the penalty kick part of the game, so they played their game masterfully to get it to a stage where they could play to their strength and force it to that point.

Pretty much spot on. They play like this nearly all the time, dont think they've won a knockout game in regular time since like the 90's. Isn't pretty but they make it work. Also, on the penalties note, it's like 85% mental. Being dragged back to pens is already a confidence knock while for the Croatians, they only get more confident and can ride that wave to the end

Also Brazil put Neymar last, like retards. Dont try anything fancy, just hit full strength straight away. Julian Dicks had a mean pen on him and he just leathered the thing, no fannying around

At least England don't have to worry about Croatian penalties until the final, though I'm not optimistic about getting past France anyway.
 
The Netherlands playing kick about in midfield is getting rather dull now. They know they have to score right?

Yeah but the team is full of underprivileged gentle-souled Africans & Arabs while the Argentinians are mostly evil white men who are probably even straight which makes it worse. So it's a real brain bender.
 
The downside to having a bench full of imports is the low iq chimpouts that come with those types.
 
Refereeing has generally been good in this WC, but this berk looks like a desperate substitute teacher trying to control a room of rioting kids who are ignoring him.

He's like the parent that says they'll count to three. He gives a yellow but we all know he ain't got the balls to go for a second (except accidentally getting someone without realising, which wouldn'tbe a surprise at this point) and definitely won't be going straight red without VAR telling him to. That's why it's all gone out of control, they know he got nothing.
