Okay this GamerGate stuff has been going on for a few years now. Luckily I haven't had to deal with idiots yammering about it in real life, but I see it all the time when I come on here or /cow/. I have my thoughts on why it is that I never hear about it and why most of my friends don't know what it is, and that is because it is essentially an exercise that keeps the minds of shut-ins, NEETs and jobless neckbeards busy on a day to day basis. I really see no evidence that they realize how silly it all is, but maybe I am wrong.

In this thread I would like to know people's experience with GamerGate in the workplace. Do people ever talk about it? Is it something that you think your managers make decisions on? Do your customers bring it up to you? In general, has the GamerGate sphere entered into your own personal work experience.

No and yes.

No in that no one here actually talks about Gamergate, nor does it have any direct connection to anything I do. Yes in that, as I work in a communications field (radio, web, video, etc.) I believe I have become more aware or certain trends that occur within the media and also have become increasingly wary of believing any news outlet.

Only other thing is (minor powerleveling ahead) is that I used to be very paranoid in offending people or having to work with people that might offend potential clients. After the whole GG bullshit circus, I begun to think about my nitpicking and being overtly critical about people made me sound and I realized in some ways I was actually beginning to try and censor people. So if anything, the SJWs had successfully converted me from being anything liking them and being more secure in speaking what I want to say, and anyone who gets offended by it can go fuck themselves.

Only once, but I felt comfortable hinting that I was pro-gamergate as we don't have an SJW infection at work. The main part of the discussion was how much of a clusterfuck it is and it is a good idea to stay observing on the sidelines

If college student counts, no in that I don't hear about. I only mentioned it off-hand to an acquaintance when some guy said GG was the ISIS of the tech world. It was just something to laugh at.

97% of people have not encountered GG in the workplace. That is surprising because it seems that more than a few people have turned it into work for themselves.

I haven't heard it at my job delivering pizza (since most of the in-store people are cambodian or mexican immigrants) but at the University (where I get shit pay as a research assistant for experience) there was a bit of a kerfuffle on the student newspaper with a 7 week exchange via student newspaper.

Basically one sperg who identifies as "fae-gendered" wrote a pretty boring article about how Gamergate is a mob of internet racists and misogynists and it was really fucking gay and no one cared. Or so I thought when another editorial appeared 2 days later by another sperg who identifies as a MRA and basically went full retard with dumbass conspiracy theories.

SJW responds to response, MRA responds to response, SJW responds to response of response, and this went back and forth for 7 weeks until the paper posted a notice in the editorial section saying that both writers were barred from submitting any more articles and to stop emailing them about the articles.

Got some links? Would be interesting to see.

I've only heard about this bullshit because of this website and a little bit from watching David Pakman's videos and I've known about his channel for years. I've never heard it brought up anywhere IRL or at school.
