General GunTuber thread

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Hi Karl! I look forward to seeing the many reviews of your genericized race gun on YouTube, I'm sure Iraqveteran1488's massive fanbase will beg him to bring it to the range.
I really want to bring up that when they announced the WWSD2020 project they said they were going to do videos on every part of the rifle and explain what their criteria was, the testing process, and why they chose the part that they did. They did that with the last part video that karl and Ian did together 11 months ago for the barrel and this is only the second part they've gone over.

I just bring this up because of how bad this video is. The only explanation for choosing a chrome BCG is that it's easy to clean and Stoner had wanted to do a chrome BCG initially, and the second half of the video is fatty and karl cleaning theirs.

I think Ian and Karl can genuinely no longer stand to be around each other, they way Ian referred to "Karl Kasarda" of InRange in his latest Q&A video seemed very telling, I think once the WWSD 202o thing runs its course they will no longer be collaborating on anything else if unless it is something they have a preexisting business interest in like the brutality matches, but then it is not entirely clear who owns them.

That doesn't necessarily mean they ain't still friends. Hell.... I can't stand my old best friend from high school for more than a few hours anymore, and we seriously get on each other's nerves during that time; but sometimes old friendships never die, even when they probably should've.

But that's not why we won't see many collaboration videos from them anymore. The fact that their career arcs have gone in such radically different ways means he simply doesn't have the time.... besides that the channel crossover not meaning squat in terms of bringing views, commensurate with the time spent on such collaborations.

For what it's worth Karl has repeatedly mentioned that the reason Ian hasn't been in any inrange videos lately is because Ian has a crazy busy schedule. This is despite the fact that Ian has said much of the content coming out on FW is backlog and that he has taken two vacations this year as well.

So unless Ian is crazy busy with headstamp publishing or is taking a very direct involvement with the business side of the WWSD rifle his behavior doesn't really line up with what Karl is saying.

Karl put up a video today on the Solarwinds hack. I was kind of shocked to find it genuinely informative, giving a breakdown of what happened, and the wider implications... Something the wider media hasn't really managed to do.

I also notice that Karl has sorted his sound, and used simple but relevant graphics to explain what was happening. It's probably because he actually gave a shit.

On that topic, does he actually work in and or know anything substantive about "infosec". It seems like ever since 5 years ago, it has become common practice for every NEET tranny, dangerhair, antifa, etc to say that they are a freelance infosec expert.

Deviant Ollam probably got to ride his wife. Does that count?

"Infosec" could be as simple as being IT, to be fair, and that's relatively easy to get into.

From Ian's video today it sounds like he's doing a lot of headstamp shit. The amount of original research that you'd have to do for a book on Warlord-era Chinese pistols is mind-blowing.

I also think that at the very least Ian is annoyed / embarrassed at Karls mask autism. Ian hasn't been photographed at any of Karls mask mandatory outdoor shooting match / sperg rallies as far as I can see and he's posted more match vids that a normal year.

I think the distance also started about the same time as Karl's polycuck gf, I suspect that might be a factor too. I know I can't really respect a person after I find something like that out about them, so that's my head cannon.

I think he was genuinely surprised at how well his books & publishing project has done; the success of which blew the door open to achieving the goal behind his original website, which was mainly archival.

Ian has always been more of a research sperg than a shooting sperg; so given the opportunity to crawl through arms room archives & auction houses, or make brutality/2-gun, or manufacturing/gunsmithing content.....

Ian's also been itching to revisit the Arisaka, which his father wrote a book on as well. And given the absolute state of weeabo waffenfags, no doubt that's been bumped up his priority list.

The fact that his books and Headstamp vaulted to the front of firearms publication in terms of quality & desirability, almost purely through crowdsourcing (both financial & information), is fairly amazing.

That's likely the most visible factor, but I think it's more of a professional call; their friendship is old enough that it'll probably last, no matter how insufferable Karl gets.

I think the older one gets, the more likely it is that one of our friends goes that route. I prefer as well, not to be seen in public with them.

I watched Karl's q&a with that deviant guy. It was a fucking disgusting circle jerk with almost no real info. They came out like they were fucking gay for each other lol.

And now InRangeTV is no longer listed on Ian's featured channels. Regardless of what they claim, I'd say the partnership is dead at this point.
This to me speaks volumes more then anything else Ian does or doesn’t do. Him not featuring a channel where he is ostensibly 50% of the personality behind it shows me he is done publicly done with Karl.

If Karl didn't have a complex about being in Ian's shadow before he definitely does now. While I don't see Ian breaking off their friendship unless Karl spergs the fuck out publicly in a way that forces people to disavow I can see Karl's resentment getting worse and worse.

Do we know who was doing the filming/production for InRange before Karl's diet coke Yoko Ono took over? My impression was it was either Ian or whoever he relies on for production.

At this point, Ian has done more plugs for channels like C&R than Karl's. Why have a dude's channel as featured when you barely talk about the guy?

Ian has done at least a dozen practical shooting videos, including a 2-gun run, all by himself over the past 8-10 months. A year ago that would have easily all been InRange content.

Ian’s planning on still going to Finnish brutality, but yeah, regardless of what their personal relationship still is, it’s safe to say that Ian has taken almost a years’ worth of careful steps to distance his brand from Karl’s.

I don’t blame him one fucking bit.
