I was put off by the whole #muted shit but I guess I just won't watch InRange anymore if this is the direction he's gonna take it. Shame, I liked a lot of the videos.
Karl talks a lot of shit about the free market for someone who's entirely reliant on Patreon's business model.
He's a smart and knowledgeable dude, just not smart or knowledgeable enough to realize when he's dead wrong about something.
The thing that finally cemented this for me was an answer he gave on a recent Q&A when he dismissed the main cannon on armored vehicles as something that would soon be the way of the past and replaced with guided missiles. No. Just no. A smoothbore cannon barrel can launch more than just unguided munitions. It's a pressure chamber to allow for projectile speeds much higher than you get with open-air rockets. That's just physics. There are cannons
right fucking now that launch smart projectiles. Part of the benefit of those systems is the way you can get a round downrange way faster (and frankly, cheaper) than with a guided rocket.
Maybe that's an autistic thing to focus on, but if I can see the issues with that statement, it makes me wonder about other answers he's given that I just haven't thought as hard about.
Between that, the first few episodes of his unwatchable podcast, and his smug "I can't believe people are making the scientific issue of Covid-19 into a political one" attitude for the past few months, I'm less likely than ever to tune in when the channel updates.
It's okay for him to take a political stance, and I'm often inclined to agree with him, it's just he has the unfortunate tendency to present his stance in a way that seems deliberately designed to alienate as many people as possible. He's not doing it to convince anyone, he's doing it to feed his ego.
I'm sick of consuming content where the creators obviously hold their audience in disdain, and I never thought I'd have to drop a
fucking gun channel in order to escape that further.
Karl is embarrassing as hell. Ian has routinely stayed away from his galaxy brain takes and as Karl gets more vitriolic I wonder how long Ian will stay associated with InRange. Ian has always been a 'do what you want' kind of guy but has actively gone against everything Karl has done with the channel. It's been fine when they are channel specific things like demonetizing from Youtube or uploading to PornHub even though he has specifically gone in the opposite direction of those decisions. But now that Karl is getting more inflammatory, more political, and has encouraged several people to leave the channel (including throwing out the time honored 'You're just a bigot!' excuse) I wonder how long it will be before Ian silently removes himself from the channel and Tacticool Fatass takes his place permanently.
On the one hand, it's interesting that Ian just posted a pistol caliber carbine time trial this weekend on Forgotten Weapons, when it seems that would be prime InRange content.
On the other hand, it's fairly obvious that the two are still legally entangled with regards to the WWSD carbine project, so they still have a close business relationship. It's just a question of whether the collaborative content will continue.
