necessary re-engineering
The original was shit, HMG's redesign was likely shit since they essentially had to reinvent it and were badgered by wehraboos, I couldn't imagine the look on the PSA team's faces when they had to investigate it since engineers are their own worst enemy even with standardized and widely accepted designs today

The stg44 was cool, but basically as soon as the fa M1 carbine trigger packs came out a superior assault rifle existed.

Step one of making it now would be redesigning it to the point it wasn't an stg 44 any more. It's not like a luger or a c96 where it's a finished commercial design. Half the shit they did in the 44 was because they were basically inventing commercial sheet metal stamping on the fly, and war time exigencies.

I don't think those stocks were very good IRL. There wasn't much keeping the stock open/close and they were super off line with recoil.
I'll be more specific in saying that an improvement upon the poor M1A1 stock would have been preferable to the standard M2 stock.

Stamping is cheap in the same manner that injection molding is cheap: it allows for extremely high production volumes using a small amount of tooling. In both cases, however, the tooling itself is typically extremely expensive, especially for large parts (dies for the STG44 receiver would be in the 6 figure range, easily), and requires a large amount of engineering effort and knowledge to get it working right in the first place, further adding to the cost.
It's also not very versatile. Another reason why the AR-15 is such a big success story is that it's very suitable for modern manufacturing.

PSA STG is kill for now
For how much Karl hates the guntube community; he seems to be terminally online and in the comments every video posted here...

Hah, I remember AWB era shit like this. And that HK single-stack only AR clone.

You know it's gonna be good when the instructional/advertisement material had more thought and effort put into it than the gun itself.

That one is right up there with the Street Sweeper in the ranking of Forgotten Weapons That Should Remain Forgotten.

James Reeves of TFB went on /k/ to leak a future episode of TFBTV that features none other than PSR. This is significant because this is to my knowledge the first time such a mainstream gun publication has featured anyone involved in the 3D Gun sphere in their video content (TFB has in the past covered several creations of Ivan The Troll but only ever in article form. While PSR isn't a dev he is unarguably the face of 3D2A entertainment and content. Nobody produces input in such quality, quantity or for such a large audience.
The episode is held in reserve because PSR is wishing to do a simultaneous release of a video of his own
Big things are happening in gun culture ( disregard PSR's weird sex stuff and insufferable lolbertarianism)
