The context here is that people gave him shit for getting the Tommy Built T36 converted into the new ATF-compliant spec. His options as a public figure in the internet was either claim boat accident/private sale and never show it on camera again, or pay the $250.
His argument was essentially "if you want me to publicly keep a technically illegal gun why don't we start with your illegal shit?" because he's a sperg and he can't make a calm and rational argument. If I'm not mistaken Ian once said in a Q&A he turned his bumpstock in simply because he's too public to risk it. That's all it takes. Karl can't help antagonizing his own audience.

So maybe this is something that I've been spoiled on from watching a lot of Drach and Ian lately, but is it just me or are the answers Karl gives in his Q&A's way too cursory? I get it that he obviously doesn't put much work into those videos given the mediocre at best sound quality and practically no editing of any kind, but come on man, even the questions he spends time on he only covers for about two minutes. Add onto that the fact that he doesn't clip or chapter any of his videos and has his audience do it for him, I would feel insulted as a fan if I asked a question and got that sort of treatment for an answer. One of the questions in his latest Q&A he literally spends 9 seconds on between reading the question and answering it, and it was a potentially interesting question to explore.

Yeah I’ve noticed that. He also tends to select dumb questions about food toppings and so forth a bit too often.
Also, I’d be kinda pissed if I were one of the patrons who submit questions for the Q&As and have to say “second time asking”, “third time asking”....because apparently Karl either didn’t have time to get to those questions, or didn’t consider them worthwhile....only to see him devote time to “I don’t have a question, just wanted to say thanks for all you do.” comments.

Yeah, I started watching Karl around about 2011 or so, so I remember when his stuff was decent, I guess mostly I'm just disappointed that someone I used to like has fallen so far, I haven't really followed him much for a couple years now but this thread has been cathartic and hilarious to read through.

It's not even that his channel & content was any better than now; it's that most other channels were also shit, for many of the same reasons. But what happened was they got better, and Karl stayed in 2012. Even boomer channels like Hickock45 have progressed, though their content hasn't changed since circa 2016.

All of this (really every problem Karl's ever had honestly) could have been avoided if Karl had kept mum about the problem in the first place and then just watched his mouth instead of getting snippy with his audience. Karl will never do that because Karl has no self confidence.

I mean, he doesn't even acknowledge how arbitrary a decision this was or how inconvenient it is for both TommyBuilt or their customers.

Precisely, he could have made a stand about how much the ATF fucks with people for no reason, especially small manufacturers like Tommy, or made a comment along the lines of "This gun is now compliant, but for how long?" but he didn't. He could have just quietly gotten it done and said nothing at all and not kicked up shit, but he didn't. He could have not complied and then kept mum about it and then lied claiming private sale of the firearm, but he didn't. He could have kept quiet and ignored the critics, but he didn't.

It still has the atrociously halfassed nub where the forward assist is, you have a basic bitch buffer assembly rather than the captive spring, an aluminum handguard that will burn the shit out of you, an awkward ambi safety, the bolt and carrier are nitrided instead of chromed* and the KE Arms DMR trigger for which nobody has any real frame of reference.
So yes, citizen, you too can own a severely gimped match gun for about $450 less than the original. Also you don't get BUIS or optics with it because fuck you.
