General GunTuber thread

Not really on-topic, but with the recent news of S&W moving to Tennessee....does anyone know if M&P-15s are any good?
Kenosha tested, Kyle approved.

This is going to sound snobby, but they're basic. For a general home defense and just punching paper rifle, perfectly fine. I know they've had issues with their MP-15/22s though.

The only ARs I'd outright caution anyone against is garbage like Radical Firearms, PSA, DPMS, and that lubeless nonsense that Anderson hawks.

There's probably more you can add to that list but it should be hard to fuck up an AR and those companies are the ones off the top of my head that do.

Edit:
It should also be known that Faxon won't stand behind their AR barrel fuck ups and that KAC won't guarantee the accuracy of their rifles if you're not in the cool kids club.

Anyone remember a couple years ago when companies were making those ar-15 uppers with side charging handles like something off a fal?
Ones like this, they seemed pretty popular and then just dissapeared.
they were originally adapted for the DPMS LR-308 so that you could overcome the stronger action spring used in the 1st gen rifles. unlike Armalite's AR-10, had brought back the AR-10B's "top charger" design for a hot minute. as DPMS worked out the kinks, they eventually got popular with LRB, JP Enterprises, and Fulton Armory (and "old" Bushmaster when they were still around and innovating). the right-side charging handle was specific to Gibbz, although some other manufacturers have picked up on it as well like Sharps and RRA. Stag Arms also makes them, but uses an adapted DPMS design.

they're still around and popular in the "large caliber" AR designs as it gives a lot more flexibility for stocks, and i've seen some interesting examples that incorporate a folding stock adapter with a side charger upper. a big advantage of it is additional leverage for strong recoil springs which might be needed in some exotic combinations of action spring or caliber, or if you dislike the normal charging handle, or are used to a charging handle on one side and want to retain that muscle memory (i know at least one AK guy that uses a right side charger for that exact reason).

while it might seem a good idea from a leverage perspective when stripping out a recalcitrant cartridge, you're actually more limited by the extractor and extractor spring typically, than the charging handle. some would prefer the side charger in situations where you would be "mortaring" the buttstock, but tearing a rim via excessive effort seems the more annoying malfunction to clear to me.

Insider info from a guy local to Karl and the AZ shooting sports. Most interesting info is highlighted:

These posts were from a new account so take it with a grain of salt but it lines up perfectly with already known information so i believe it.
source is on page 4, rest of the thread is boring so don't bother:

For what it's worth, I got a couple family members from Tucson visiting for the weekend, both of them members of the local gun community. They watch ForgottenWeapons so I jokingly asked them their opinions on Karl and Ian. According to them, Karl is an insufferable bitch, and Ian might as well be a sasquatch for how hard he is to spot. Although that last one might be because they hang out with the 3-gun crowd instead.

I must agree that much of this lines up with what we know. Karl being bullied in school doesn't surprise me.
A nerd with a funny alliterative last name? Him being bullied was a foregone conclusion.

I wonder if Karl is as thin skinned as other internet personalities (who am I kidding here), and googles his name constantly just to see what people say about him.
I got no confirmation on Google, but I have it on good authority he does (or did it) it on Facebook. He has on a few occasions showed up to argue in the comments to posts he had not been tagged in, and that was actually before he went full retard.
