It cannot be said just how terrible /k/ has gotten over the last few months. I'm 100% a newfag who only started browsing it a few years ago and it is horrendous even coming from my perspective. Like the worst parts of /pol/ and reddit combined to shill for whatever side(mostly Ukraine and NATO) and then respond to obvious bait. I'd find it hard to believe that the population of the board hasn't drastically changed, there used to be a few good threads at a time under all the shit, now everything besides the faggy generals gets pushed off by the ten thousandth mindless war propaganda post.

The two biggest things to change /k/ for the much worse in the past have been the 2016 elections, and then Sandy Hook, the latter was like day and night, one day that shit happens and then the board was never the same again, that /k/ is long gone.
There's a strong counter-reaction to the years of Putincucks and Russoboos being faggots, but it's also now mixed with lots and lots of actual shills, Russian ones, Ukraine ones, and probably lots of the typical Western ones as well.
I suspect that there's actually less Redditors and Twittards than some people insist.

/k/ is one of those boards which more than most others could use a really hard and active purge, one kept up for a long time.
 
On a side note; some interesting information....

Patty Mayo, the fake bounty hunter/cop who likes to film himself playing dress up cop/bounty hunter and occassionally do so with the Paul brothers alongside him, is launching a redneck talent show as a spin-off show.

Given that Patty's collaborators on his fake cop/bounty hunting video supposedly have a history of fraud on them and stories of Patty running livestream scams (having people send in money via superchat to "spin a wheel for a prize" and never getting said prize), I have to wonder how big a scam this "talent show" is going to be.

(he's also shaved his head and ditched the facial hair; which means he's probably also had to relocate to another state to make his "cop/bounty hunter" videos given stories about how people keep reporting him to the real cops and the cops knowing him by name by now as a serial police impersonator hiding behind his "I'm an actor" excuse.

The late 2000s-early 2010s /k/ was just comfy. The surplus market wasn't totally fucked. I got to witness the glory of the 79 dollar Moist Nugget. Straight out of the crate SKS were stupid affordable and if you wanted to be high speed, the Century VZ2008 imports were like 400 bucks. Ron Paul 2008 was going to make anime real. More people had KelTec Sub 2000s and Maverick 88s than ARs. The 7n6 spam cans became the stuff of legends and people were actually building 5.45 AR uppers just to take advantage of the low cpr. I think /k/ might have peaked when we were all following the Zimmerman trial.
That kind of community got fucked by the culture war kicking off and the aforementioned election tourists coming along.

I really regret selling my VZ2008 - it was a cool and unique rifle compared to the standad AK and one of the few parts-builds by Century that was worth a shit, and today you can't find one on Gunbroker for under $1000.
