Since we can own real guns it's mostly a novelty unless something silly happens. There was a brief renaissance in people noticing them during the California gun buyback craze, because an assembled pipe shotgun was considered a firearm and got a few enterprising scammers a 10-20x return on the materials invested.Its funny how there have been design and testing videos of electricly detonated black powder shotguns but it only gets eyeballs when a meme guntuber does it to capitalize on an assassination.
e: basically my point is, the average person browsing gun youtube used to see that and go "huh how weird" but wouldn't give it a second glance after the video ends. It's suddenly interesting (to kiwifarms) because grifters are jumping on the bandwagon for clicks to make money off of the death of a famous person.
