I have really mixed feelings on him, I feel like I've learned some good metal/machine tips from him. On the other hand he is one of those people who's contrarian impulse is so strong you can steer them with it, and I've seen him fucking butcher a couple stocks because he lacks the patience for the steam cabinet.

Not even close to his worst. What immediately comes to mind is a pre 1900 Mauser 98 sporter in the original stock, which had warped. To correct the warp he sawed the stock in half length-wise and epoxied a steel rod in it. Despite his cope otherwise the glue line is very visible in the finished product.

I lost a lot of regard for him when he said something to the effect of "LC Smith shotguns always break. if yours isn't broken you don't shoot it" I can't remember the exact wording but it was close.

These shotguns have been shooting birds for 100 years. If they always brake it wouldn't be a challenge to find one with a finish left on it for less than 1,000 dollars. There wouldn't be a clay's tournament build around them. There wouldn't be a fun rivalry between Parker Bros and LC Smith shooters at the southern SxS championships.

I also seem to remember him chucking a new barrel into a lathe to turn the diameter down some and being able to see the barrel shake on camera. ain't no way that thing is concentric!

If an internet source is to be believed, he's 75 years old. He appears to have the health to live to 80s or maybe 90s, but I fear it'll be detrimental to his longevity if he needs to quit this hobby due to an injury.

About every 6 months to a year I sub to him to get a summary of gun news forgetting my past experience. Then about a week later I unsub for the absolute retarded takes they have.

I don't see any reason to stop. He shoots in the safest way really. out doors, so good ventilation, from a stationary position with good footing on flat terrain just a few steps from the house. its safe as can be for an older man.
