Full30(when first paywalled), Utreon and History of Weapons & War all had something in common, the people they advertise are known for either very short-form content(Ian) already available long-form content(9-Hole) or being smug assholes(Bloke).
Just about the only person I'd pay to watch is Chap because he's decent with the reloading videos, but apart from him what's offered? A 10 minute video on a machine gun with the forbidden full-auto fire? Who else posts there and what do they show? I'm not going to the website, the little preview of giggling dummies didn't reel me in.
 
I backed Utreon because they had a plan for moderation, etc. They also combined Patreon and YT features which offered better data for a creator. In other words: they were trying to do better than YouTube. Sadly they failed to gain market and were probably too sensitive to avoiding being overtly political etc. Middle of the road meant ignorable. The one advantage as an alt platform though, was that users could use it as a Patreon alt and just keep watching wherever.

To date, no other platform has offered something like this. Rumble vaguely caught up to it is all. Everything else tells you to sign up so you can have an inferior walled garden on a different app with less features and almost no discovery.

Instead it seems by allowing some content YT is unpredictable on, you have to drag your whole audience into another platform with worse features and you get "taxed" way more as a creator.

I'm starting to think a sort of gun LiveLeak-Lite is necessary. Just a too-hot-for YT site that doesn't rehost every damn video. Just the vorbotten ones.

That is part of the problem that needs solving, yes. YouTube standards have given way to YouTube sensibilities, and like Yankees bumbling south of the Mason-Dixon they bring the same style of content but slightly edgier(Read: They mention 30 round magazines and fire full-auto) to somehow justify a price tag when it's easier to watch their similar content on YouTube.

Based on my feed full of 3D printed guns, daily footage of Sahelian Islamists over running military outposts, the daily lives of Russian Mercenaries, spokesman for congolese rebel groups, a few batshit insane conspiracy theorists and general Chud stuff you're not going to have any trouble posting videos of legally possessed historical machine guns or similar

Other Pros
-Everyone uses it
-PSR, Brandon Herrera, Lucas Botkin, Mr G&G and others are already established there
-Many of the most insufferable people in the world refuse to use it and thus won't pollute the community
-Won't keel over and die within 2 years
-Can even make money (you'd be surprised at what's eligible for monetization on X)

I watched it, he basically said that it stopped growing and he can't afford to subsidize it anymore. They're moving subscriptions to pepperbox along with some of the channels.

HOWW will be shutting down at the end of September, as it has simply not been able to grow enough to both pay for its own upkeep and also provide income to the member creators. At least some of the channels will be migrating to Pepperbox (pepperbox.tv), and all partial annual subscriptions will be honored by Pepperbox. All monthly subscribers here will get a 2-month free trial of Pepperbox.


I am hopeful that we can bring everyone over there over the course of a few months, and help Pepperbox become the one go-to YouTube alternative platform for firearms content.


Thank all very much for being part of HOWW! It was intended to give a helping hand to the smaller channels in the historical/educational sphere and thanks to your subscriptions it was able to do just that. I wish it had been able to grow large enough to support that goal without being subsidized, but we at least gave it a real effort.


As I have finalized details about subscription and channel migrations I will post them here.

Aside from the major problem of getting viewers to use alternative hosting websites, I think the largest issue is combining viewer ships with different tastes and niche content. Look at the thumbnail, only the Sig M7 would be a popular subject for wide appeal., maybe the burst AK or A7V if they were featured in a recent video game or movie. I think dedicated fans would rather support their favorite channel directly through Patreon-like platforms rather than pay for a separate platform including a bunch of content they aren't interested in.

Even worse is that all of those videos are already on YouTube. People willing to throw money at them already go to their patreon or equivalent and probably get perks for that at least.

I know, seen him before, seems a nice and knowledgeable dude (duckbill, A&W Diverter vids were kinda cool). No disrespect meant to him by comparing him to karl but the semblance in some shots was there.
