I gave up on FW years ago when it became obvious that Ian had run out of interesting videos long ago.

Paul was the very best of them all, and his passing has left a void that even his brother can't fully fill.

I DO really appreciate Roy though, and he is one of only 3 Guntubers I actually subscribe to.

I soured on Ian when he admitted in a Q&A years ago that he won't do videos on an interesting gun until he gets it because he wants to keep the prices down. Then and only then he said he might do a video on it.

Y'know, the money that people give him on patreon to cover interesting guns on his channel? Y'know, the people who watch his stuff for interesting guns?

It's hard to explain but it just rubbed me the wrong way. I understand it from a normal person POV but not from someone whose entire channel's existence is to make videos on weird guns. He got that patreon money (this is prior to the overpriced books n shit) to make videos on guns, not just to pad out his personal gun collection and maybe make a video on it.

Prob retarded and/or autistic and/or petty af, I know.

And yeah I know this post is like a month old, I'm catching up on 30 pages of guntubery. 'cuz I don't watch any of them anymore since Paul died and the very occasional FW video. Sometimes some cap and ball if I want some blackpowderness. That one canadian dude is a little too autistic for my taste.

It's not retarder/autistic/petty. But I have never ever heard Ian say that in any Q&A, or interview, and I've watched pretty much all of his content for years now, including stuff he did on InRangeTV and interviews outside his channel. Never do I recall him saying that he won't do a video about a gun because he wants to keep prices down for himself to acquire.

If he has said that, then sure that's a bit scummy. But I doubt he has.

I think it comes from the hearsay about the split with one of the auction houses. Apparently he left on bad terms with them (Rock island, I think?) over something to do with an auction. but it's all rumor and no one in the position to know has said anything.

He actually did say this, I swear, but I'm not autistic enough to dig through the years of videos to find it. Hell he might have even taken it down by now.

I don't sour on someone just based off of hearsay or rumors. Normally, anyway. Except for Botkin and his family's weird cult thing.

I hate the tiny grips o

The allegation, as I recall it, was that he refused to do a video on a gun that was up for auction and he wanted because he knew the video would raise the price. The other side of that coin is once it's his he can probably make a better video because he can shoot it all he wants.

I vaguely remember him saying he didn't want to cover some thing until he bought it, but at the same time i think it was couched as no good loners being available to him.

Earlier in the thread it was framed as he was getting pressured from the auction house to cover certain guns to raise the prices so house could make more money. Interesting that the narrative is now that he did it to serve himself.

It seems scummy at first but at the end of the day as long as he makes the video and he can make a higher quality video, then he did his job for his viewers. If you weren’t interested in the gun in the first place and need him to make content to get you to sign into an auction house website; then it’s your loss.

Plus a baby boomer seller got less money, always a win.

As I said I'm probably being petty as shit but it really just rubbed me the wrong way since he asks people for money so he can keep going places and covering guns.

Either way I still occasionally watch his stuff. When he actually has something interesting and isn't a $3,000 pistol he got for free.

Hell I watch the royal armouries videos more than his these days. Yeah they're sanitized n shit but they actually have weird old shit still.

I believe there are multiple auction stories because he worked with multiple auction houses. It's pretty well confirmed that one of them (julia I think) got very pushy about wanting him to cover certain items he wasn't necessarily interested in so that they would get promoted. The other stories, including the one I repeated - are less well attested.

There are only two that he has really worked with (unless you count the odd few videos he did in Austria or was it Switzerland): The Rock Island Auction Company and the Morphy Auctions (which used to be the James D. Julia Auction House). And he still does content with the Morphy Auctions. That's mostly the full auto stuff. The latest video from Morphy's is the Union & Switch 1911 he released less than two weeks ago:

The videos from RIA ended like half a decade ago. I can't remember if Ian has ever addressed it in public. The two theories are (as already stated above), that he either tried to buy a gun from under the table, or that the auction house tried to tell him which guns he should film to bump their prices and that ended the relationship. Either way, that ship has sailed.

Which sucks, because RIA had almost more of the rare stuff. Morphy's/JDJ has the NFA stuff, but RIA had some really special prototypes and whatnot.

Taking a break from Trench, there's more T Rex arms shit. The Trex crew are looking for a new CEO and are doing it through a public Indeed ad. For those who are unaware looking for your next CEO on the same platform you use to find entry level IT helpdesk workers is a bad fucking sign for the future of your company. Not just that though as they still used the job ad to talk shit about Lucas.

The founder/face who personally drove most revenue as a social media influencer resigned over conflict with his brothers/co-owners and tried to destroy the brand. The goal is a substantial CAGR from current to a new revenue level.

Stay classy Botkin family.

on a positive note both Focus Tripp and Ben Stoeger have said they plan to apply.

It makes way more sense to me that RIA simply stopped inviting Ian because they realized they could just do the same style of videos entirely within house and promote the guns they want promoted at the same time. Because thats exactly what they started doing shortly after he stopped making videos with them.

Especially, when you have a quick glance at what kind of videos they are making. A lot of the guns they feature are 1850-1940 stuff with provenance or some special models, that attract collectors. Stuff like engraved Colt SAAs, which undoubtedly bring a lot of money, but I doubt Ian is terribly interested in doing a video on.

Since I am a private man myself, I don't leak others' business. However, I will say how amazingly wrong the zeitgeist gets the story every time. I saw some low level employee leak gun drama once on /k/ and was genuinely nervous I might be accused of sharing secrets. But have no fear, they shouted him down, called him a tard, and went back to making shit up. I never saw the truth repeated again.

9/10 of these stories: two intrinsic interests are butting heads and neither will yield the moment for the big picture. I'm talking legitimately 90% of the time. Sometimes it's valid because one party never yields and the other finally refuses to. Other times it's just ego or carelessness.

The other 1/1? Usually the mob sides with the one in the wrong ON THAT ISSUE. Generally that's because the one in the wrong has more of a relationship with the public or perceived alignment in other topics.

You would have to either be a dedicated Lucas alawg or a craven lunatic to do business with people who would put out an ad like that.

Someone get IraqVeteran1488 to apply!

The only universal truth in the entire gun community is the fact that /k/ is staggeringly retarded, even by 4chan standards.
