Google is currently fucking with YouTube mirrors. last month they sent a
legal threat to the Invidious project to intimidate them into shutting down (Invidious isn't owned by anybody and isn't bound to Google's TOS so there's no way to back up that threat). the Invidious community ignored it of course so right now they're
silently IP banning Invidious servers. of course the FOSS nerds instantly started
brainstorming workarounds such as running scripts to auto-rotate video pulls through a large IPv6 block at random to make themselves effectively impossible to ban:

Twitter is making a similar move. tech companies are starting to see alternative clients as a threat. even though the newpipe delisting was quickly reversed, I highly doubt it was a mistake or a fluke
