I'm really interested in learning aboug graphic design and visual effects however I don't know where to start and know very little. Problem is I'm no good at drawing. How good do you have to be at it to be in either fields? It looks really cool and I'm interested in getting a degree and doing some work in those fields one day.

StreetMonkey NI does some really good visual effects work with commercials and advertisements.

I think you need to know at least the basics of drawing to get an idea for how graphic design and motion graphics work, as they tend to share the same principals as regular 2D animation. 3D is a little different- If you're animating characters, then yes, at least some idea of how timing and other animation principals work are needed, but the rest is pretty much just technical and draw more on real life studies or using real life elements to do things erase wires and whatnot.

I know that Belfast and Dublin are home to a lot of graphic designers and animators in recent years. I've been trying to find courses and maybe online, but those aren't as helpful.
