Hallo, hallo!!!

Coming Halloween, and the new Halloween movie, I've decided to do a weekend-long marathon of the Halloween and Friday the 13th movies.
After all Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers are the most iconic, long living masked serial killers of cinema.
So, Kiwis, who do you choose? Who's your favorite masked killer?
Who would win in a Jason vs Michael scenario?

I have mentioned this before on other threads on the topic, but I believe the distinction boils down to this simple contrast

Michael Myers (and by extension his franchise) started at his absolute perfect peak of both quality and scariness, to the point where his first appearance pretty much birthed the whole Slasher Genre as we know it (after a series of kinda-not quite slasher films from Psycho to Texas Chain Saw Massacre to Black Christmas). After this however....things went downhill. A lot. Like really fucking bad (where its still contested today whether the Busta-Rhymes-Kills-Michael timeline or the Michael-Rapes-His-Underaged-Niece-Because-Druid-Techno-Cult timeline is the lowest moment) to the point where the franchise had to be rebooted twice and remade once before a legitimately good sequel was finally released this year.

Jason (and by extension his franchise) on the other hand steadily evolved over a series of movies, only really becoming the Icon we know in Movie 4 (though he gained his most memorable appearence in Friday 13th 3d) and never came close to reaching the heights that Michael did in the original Halloween. That being said, his movies were on average of significantly higher quality and infinitely more entertaining than just about any Halloween sequel, with even the worst Friday 13th movie being a whole lot more bearable than the worst of Halloween

Overall I rank it thusly.

Michael Myers/Halloween take the win for "highest point/single best movie", Jason Vorhees/Friday 13th take the win for "best on average/most consistantly enjoyable"

Or to put it another way, if you want to see the best Slasher film in history then you will want to watch the OG Halloween. If you want to marathon a franchise with friends and booze then go with Friday 13th

Just watched Halloween 1, 2, and 4 for the first time and I have to say: they were pretty fucking goofy. That fourth one was especially dumb.

I've still never seen any of the Jason or Freddie movies, but those will probably be next.

I've never seen the Halloween films because the timeline seems like a confusing mess so I can't say this for sure but isn't Michael Myers alive? As in, he's not an unkillable monster like Jason? Hell even Freddy "dream demon" Krueger had trouble with Jason.

Jesus, the Halloween franchise has pedophilia and incest? That's...ballsy.

Jason has more explicit supernatural power, so if they fight then Jason wins. Both of them can sort of body surf though.

As for which films I like more, it depends what sort of slasher I want. Michael is more hidden stab, Jason is more overt stab, at least overall.

Nightmare on Elm St. Gets pretty goofy around the 2nd or 3rd movie.
But at least it had a better NES game than Jason and obviously was better than anything they came up with for Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween *cough* Atari

Press X to Jason.

While Michael may be the prototype of movie slashers, Jason is god-modded slasher tier.

Jason has had at least two video games based on his hijinks. Michael has none.

Jason has killed Crispin Glover, the one girl from Destiny's Child, and his Mom killed Kevin Bacon. Michael was roundhouse kicked by Busta Rhymes. Granted, Jason was "killed" in part 4 by Corey Feldman, but Feldman has innate Wacko Jacko powers.

Jason makes mass murder into an art form, using anything from his trademark machete to harpoon guns to sleeping bags. Michael has used various killing methods, but his are rather pedestrian in comparison.

Jason went to space, has taken Manhattan, and also fought a dream demon. Michael fought the lady from the yogurt commercials and tried to rape his cousin.

Jason knows how to accessorize, sporting a slightly different look in each film. Michael is forever stuck in a boiler suit and a Willam Shatner mask.

Jason has a song written about him by Alice Cooper. Michael does not.

Jason has not had the indignation of being in a Rob Zombie movie remake. Michael has. Twice.

Only thing Michael has above Jason is John Carpenter's bitching theme song.

No one involved with a Halloween film worked on Big Trouble in Little China. So there's that.
One thing I will say about the fourth one: they got the theme song down.
The 4th movie has some neat ideas. The intro sequence, the scene with the reverend. I really wish they had gone with the idea of Jamie taking up Michael's knife. But that would have taken serious balls.
