fucking based lmao
honestly I wanted to try harvest moon a few years ago, but i think i only played it for a few minutes, cuz i already had stardew valley (i didnt really play stardew valley either)
I used to play a lot of farmville and similar as a kid tho
Honestly I'm surprised that Harvest Moon isn't as popular in the autism community like Sonic or Pokemon is.
Maybe it's the idea of "hard work" turns people off but it's a satisfying game to play, Stardew Valley is cool in that you kinda have more control over your farm and it feels bit more hands on, but the characters aren't as cool.
Back To Nature is like HM64 on hard mode in that one in-game hour is like 20 seconds if even that. I feel rushed from leaving the house, tending to the animals (inside the barn and coop time stops, thankfully) but if you have a fuck ton of crops and you have to water each one individually it can take up an entire day, so no time to hit the mines, forage, fish, or try to woo your wife, but seeing the money go up day to day is just really satisfying.
I'm playing Light of Hope and once you start mining and you level up your hoe it's insane the profit you make. Almost too easy I think.
HM AWL fucking drove me nuts because one sleep cycle isn't a day. It's only 8 hours and every time you do something or walk if fatigued you stop and snore, it's really annoying. So eating is a must.
They remade AWL into Story of Seasons and they introduced the faggy "non-binary" thing, and it's 40 dollars, so I'm gonna stick with the PS2 version if I ever feel like punishing myself with that game again.
Hate to be a nag but isn't there already a Harvest Moon thread in the Games subforum?
Dead though. And this thread is just more me wondering how popular it actually is outside of a forgotten thread.
Stardew Valley is odd. It's like a farming game but there's also a bunch of other stuff too, including combat in dungeons, there are quests, there are other places to travel to, there's honestly a lot to do. You hit all kinds of points where you think "Ok this must be about it for what's in this game" only for something entirely new to open up.
It also contains one of the most exotic and appealing fantasies in all of modern gaming: moving away from society out to a quiet community, onto a plot of land you inherited, cultivating it, then marrying and having children on your farm. You don't even have to pay taxes!
Homo nonsense kind of exists, but that's predicated on the player choosing to become a homo, since NPCs respond the same regardless of your gender. The only progressive thing outside that is probably that the one carpenter lady in town is married and has a kid with a black dude scientist.
I also suspect the girl Emily is coded to be a lesbian since she's slightly dykish, and as your relationship level progresses she has a dream featuring your character that literally contains rainbows and pink triangles, but again that isn't set in stone; funny enough the transexuals online are all obsessed with her sister, the airheaded blond one, and have decided she's canonically a lesbian since they find her easiest to masturbate to.
Allegedly the playerbase is actually majority female with like a 60/40 split, but idk how true that is. It's absolutely a little fruity but very charming.
Shit the blonde in SV is the one I married because I always liked the idea of a city/valley girl becoming a nice housewife. And to be fair, marrying the blonde (Haley?) she actually becomes very useful. She'll water your crops for you, but if you have the sprinklers already it's kinda moot, but funny and sweet in that she's trying to help not knowing it's already automatically done.
Stardew Valley is fun until you start getting the automatic petters, auto feeders, sprinklers to autowater, then it just feels kinda pointless. Wake up, harvest sell. There's the mines too but once you get the community center finished it kinda feels like the end game from there.
Had the N64 one back in the day. I didn't understand the appeal of farming games, though even back then it could be really cozy. My brother always went for Elli.
Extremely cozy. I remember from like 2001-2005 every winter there'd be a blizzard and I couldn't go to school for a few days and HM64 then later the PS2 games came out and those are my winter cozy games. HM 64, South Park 64, and Turok got me through the coldest winters of my life
