Has being hyper-connected ruined your perception of the community you live in?

To communicate with some relatives and boomer customers I had to create a Facebook profile. I made the mistake of following some local news pages or dedicated to the city in general. I noticed that the bombardment of negative news and especially the reading of polemical and ultra-aggressive comments written by semi-illiterate people, has had a negative effect on my perception of the place where I live. I thought it was a 'safe haven' or in any case I 'dug a niche' in which I felt good and was surrounded by like-minded people but now I have started to reconsider my position and knowing that I am surrounded by people of a certain type creates me (relative) anxiety.

did it happen to you too? I was right before to ignore certain things and is it unnatural to know everything, or the opposite?

You were absolutely right to ignore everything. Social media has ruined at least two generations of people by creating safe spaces for them to retreat to whenever they are challenged mentally and socially. People NEED to be forced to learn how to deal with other people who think differently from them.

Not to mention that you are now at the mercy of news and corporate entities that understand this concept and use it to fear monger and gaslight you into believing certain things that all just so happen to benefit them.

Get rid of all social media, ignore mainstream news, call, text or email your relatives and customers like a normal god damn human being, and congratulations your life should almost instantly improve.

Absolutely. I have social media, but only for the sake of keeping in touch. Seeing every thought and opinion my friends & family have on every little topic drains me so I try to avoid mindlessly scrolling the feed as much as possible.
