Have you become jaded with tech advancements and think it's getting gay?

As I'm getting older I'm started to become less interested in tech and finding advancements in technologies are shit and a novelty.

Like the web feels more and more shit and bloated and if the web didn't progress past 2015, I wouldn't of mind. Social media is trash and much of it is brain rot.

Advancements in phones seems little more then adding updated cameras and small changes here and there but retards still line up to pay $1200 every twelve months.

Advancements in gaming isn't leading to better games. Company's are just improving graphics but actually making better mechanics or interesting game design. A lot of new games and consoles don't seem to be worth the money.

Am I going to start yelling at clouds or is technology kind of shit?

You're right and it's only going to get worse. Even on an appliance level, technology is shit. Can't get a toaster, fridge or coffee maker that'll last longer than 5 years without problems at this point. Why does a fridge need an iPad on the door? AI and the dead internet theory are just going to further bury social media as we know it. I'm at a point where I get banned for weeks on Instagram and Twitter for mundane shit meanwhile my jaw drops at what bots and tards get away with. Video games like the new Hideo Kojima project OD are just glorified "movies" with all the motion capture and scanning that's used. All creativity and reliability is being absolved as we speak and it's depressing to say the least.

I find it depressing for older family members. They want a new TV so you have to by some smart TV where the remote control starts breaking after 12 months. They want to check something on their computer, they get hit with another update and can't use it. They get told that their phone that's been reliable and never had issues can't be used with 3G so they go out and get a smartphone which they then have to learn to use.

I actively encourage my older family members to stay away from new technology as it will do is confuse them and not give them any benefit. They should be outside enjoying life instead of worrying about this shit.

Yes. In the last decade there has been a clear change from ‘technology is optional and you use it because it makes your life/work better’ to ‘technology is mandatory and you will endure an increasing amount of detrimental bullshit because you have no alternative’. This trend is not likely to reverse.

It's all just been bullshit ever since they put GUI operating systems on PCs.
Saw this thread. Came here to say this. Saw you said it already.

Changing from "typing words to do things" to "clicking on pictures to do things" is a massive metaphorical change that shifts computer learners away from linguistic processing to visual pattern matching. The implications of this are too deep to ignore, and the current wave of illiteracy rides on these coattails.

Zune's UI and Windows Phone 7 were the last great creative applications of a text interface before they were wiped out by iPhaggot hieroglyphics.

I’m of two minds. On the one hand, things like operating systems and the internet have definitely gotten less reliable, video games are either worse or at best no better than they were a decade ago, and appliances like washing machines or robo-lawnmowers are actively getting worse. On the other hand, modern computer hardware is seriously impressive, OLED, 4k120Hz, pirating 2160p and storing dozens of terabytes of content on my own NAS, and of course all the AI we can run at home are absolutely incredible.
It’s just some days I want to chat with an LLM on my 4090 desktop while I play a game of Civ5 and browse the pre-shit 4chan on my 2013 MacBook Air.

I am going to be so, so sad when my 'dumb' tv finally dies. Its just a generic flat screen of a reasonable size I bought when I was 18. Its been shoved in the back of a volkswagen and a then a honda so many times as Ive moved around. I love it. Its a beast. I have zero reason to believe it is going to die anytime soon, works great. I am so jaded by all these tech upgrades and smart shit I may never buy another tv unless I can find a dumb older one. I will never have a smart tv, never. I had to replacey washer recently and went with a refurbished used model. I couldnt find any that didnt connect to wifi (dafuq?) But I found one that the wifi was optional so thats the one I got. Push button wash clothes. I feel it doesnt clean very well...and so I end up doubling the rinse cycle everytime otherwise socks come out still smelling vaguely foot like. I hate this shit. I just want a regular washer that washes clothes, not even a huge one either. This thing says you can wash 2 king comforters but theres no fucking way either one would grt clean. I only fill it a quarter of the way or things on top dont really get wet. The dryer absolutely cooks my clothes. My shit is falling apart because of the lower quality plus harshness of HE washer/dryer machines. I hang up any new clothes I buy now so I can get them to last a little longer. I hate touch screens. I miss buttons. I have an old vehicle and love it. I will drive it until it disentigrates. I fixed my very old 'dumb' off brand roomba that I love...battery died after 6 years and they dontmake the battery anymore. Spliced in a slightly different battery and soldered the connections since the connector wasnt a match lmao. Works great again. Ill never have a wifi robo vac or one with a damn camera on it. God damn I am so frustrated.

When your TV dies just buy a large 4k pc monitor with HDMI in and use that. Expect to pay a lot more for any display without an onboard advertising AI chip tho...

Modern tech is making people more retarded than ever. You used to have to know really basic shit, like color coding with your composite inputs and outputs to use your TV, knowing basic computer care and ownership to use the computer. Now it's all just turn it on and use it, very little to no set up time aside from 'charge this battery first' and 'connect to the internet so we can spy on you right away'

I have my old stupid TV that came out at the same time HDMI did, and my new "smart" tv I got last christmas. And if the resolution wasn't so fucked and not really too adjustable on the old stupid tv on my modern consoles I never would have upgraded.

Some, maybe most of the smart TVs, will still go through the setup process without an Internet connection + account. Roku is the only one I can think of that will not let you skip it, but you could disconnect it later. Without an Internet connection, it can't hijack your HDMI connection to show ads. Oh look, Roku is the one trying to do that too.

My LG TV used as a monitor, I will see a webOS overlay like this one briefly over my desktop only after turning it back on if the PC turned off the screen, but without the My Content thing on the left, and it goes away in about 3-5 seconds. I could probably prevent this forever by using a screensaver or never turning the screen off/sleeping.

Avoid the worst offenders, check Q&As to see if a TV works without Internet and doesn't have obtrusive UI, and you'll be good for the next 10 years hopefully. If TVs continue to get worse with embedded 6G chips to bypass lack of Wi-Fi/Ethernet, you can likely find someone giving away their old smart TV.

I'm using an LG C1 OLED TV as a monitor, and am very pleased with it. Assuming you have the same OS on yours, you can disable the launch menu by going All Settings > System > Additional Settings > Home settings and disabling Home Auto Launch. It's kind of hidden, but once you set it it'll start directly into whichever HDMI channel it was on, just like a normal monitor (except it doesn't turn on automatically with the PC, you still need to press the power on the remote).

And also long-press the source button, click the three dots, Edit, and set your HDMI inputs to PC. This disables all the nonsense the TV does to the video, improving image quality and reducing input lag to what you'd have on a normal monitor.

You won't see that again. There aren't any consequential technical limitations on video games anymore - the limiting factor is what a team of human beings can create in a sane and financially-feasible development period.

Innovations in future video games will come from a wildly creative person like other forms of art, rather than because we've transcended another technical barrier.

Modern tech is amazing and it's getting better all the time
I cannot tell if this is a troll, but advancements have slowed to an absolute crawl compared to the last 20 years.

CPUs aren't getting faster. We're running into quantum tunneling issues with transistors being so close together, the nanoscale issue has not been solved and we have microprocessors out there with >40% error rates in computational tasks due to interference and crosstalk. That means almost half the work your modern CPU does is discarded when error-correction kicks in.
It's why we just put more cores into CPUs now instead of more transistors into a package.

I could sperg more but that one item has stymied all advancements.
