Heckin Railgun/Index Appreciation Thread

Brittney Karbowski seems cool. A couple of years ago I went to a smaller con she was attending. Monica Rial, the biggest bitch in anime, was also attending. Rial looked like she was contemplating suicide any time I looked up at her table. On the other hand Karbowski seemed to actually enjoy interacting with her fans. Truth be told I'm not a fan. I watch subbed. When I learned she was going to be there though I took the base of one of my Misaka figures for her to autograph and wore a Misaka shirt. When I entered her line she yelled out "Oh my god Misaka!" She tried to converse with me over the line but I'm partially deaf so It became awkward. Speaking of awkward she of course has a person to handle the money side of things and while they were doing that for each person she looked super awkward waiting to put on her act for the next person. I know it is all an act. She probably signed a couple thousand head shots and that one dude had custom printed Rimuru pics for whatever reason. Anyways, when I got up there and asked her to sign my figure base she was like "oh I have a special pen just for this" and pulled out a ziplock bag full of every fucking type of marker you can think of. She asked me which Misaka the figure was and wrote a quote on the base as well as her signature. Overall it was a 10/10 experience. I'm glad Brittney has as much of a passion for her character as I do.

Things with a lot of spinoffs confuse me, and I usually put them on the back burner forever. Speaking of Rimuru I had the same problem with that series, and the novel was kinda boring. I think I read some of the original Index manga, and maybe the translations were slooow 15 years ago too.

Please-please- please give me the watch order for this series, I'm begging you. I'll be lost without it.

I read through the first three volumes of the light novel series and really enjoyed them. Been meaning to get back to them but I'll probably start from scratch in Japanese when I get to that level. I remember trying out some other light novels around the same time and feeling like Index was too good of a start, others like Re:Zero just paled in comparison.

Watch in release order, the chronological differences are minute enough to not matter much.

Season 1 of Railgun
Season 2 of Railgun / Season 1 of Index / Season 1 of Accelerator
Season 2 of Index / Season 3 of Railgun
Season 3 of Index

The biggest issue with trying to establish a timeline is you have to base it off of what characters are/aren't alive and what condition they're in. So you'll notice that part way through one series, you'll notice that a character that experienced something in another series will reflect that storyline. It's hard to nail down, but with the exception of a specific character that dies and shows up un a later released season of a different series, it's inconsequential.

But really, just watch in release order, it genuinely doesn't matter.

I'm going to disagree. Railgun is better than Index in my opinion. I would start with the first season of Railgun which is chronologically second as far as anime releases are concerned. If that hooks you in watch all of Index next. Index will give you the broad overview of the world and complete the story. Go back to Railgun season 2 to get the more minute details and more Misaka. I'd watch Accelerator next to get your moe heart boner and then it is Railgun season 3.
I've only seen Accelerator's spin-off. Literally nothing else.
Tch. Accelerator is moe fanservice. If you liked it you should explore the world further to get the full context.

Yes, but the first season of Index is honestly the best. Loved this series as I watched it during some bad times (Thanks Obama) and always come back to it. It honestly should have ended by now but at least it has a lot of interesting chatacters.

I also never want to hear Jersh shittalk any anime since he admitted to watching Lucky Star. Sorry Raildex has actions and death instead of a cheerleader dance, weeb

Another disagree, the only really good arc loses a ton of impact if you watch index first and then Railgun.

The best arc is a very high high, the rest is kind of meandering but perfectly serviceable as a popcorn anime. Index is more actionish while Railgun has more slice of life and cute girls doing cute things. I've watched Railgun 1 and 2 and Index 1... don't even remember if I also watched 2. I would like to continue it, but it didn't grab me nearly as much as Monogatari which is another mess of multiple connected series.

Won't deny that I enjoy Mikoto, one of the better Tsunderes out there as far as I'm concerned. I have avoided reading what happens in the future (though I did spoil myself on some stuff from the core narrative) but I'm still waiting on what Uiharu's flower crown is all about since it was kind of suggested there was more to it and Saten to... well just be something more than the only normal person in the room.

As for Touma... meh, he's convoluted as fuck just in general having him lose his memory for it to be kind of a non factor seemed retarded to me and Index becoming a glorified pet when one would expect having a knowledge repository of monstruous proportions around would generate a lot of... well anything.

As for Touma
I think even the author has admitted that was a stupid move as the only time that has mattered was during the Angel Fall Arc. And Touma pretty much set the standard got Light novel MCs going forward.

Updating here just to say I think it's neat that Level Upper is a song. It might be an MK Ultra experiment in this world, and I honestly wasn't really expecting anything of sorts to be in this kind of series.

Then again, I didn't know what to expect going in, I just knew this was a popular franchise.
