I want to know who at Arrowhead okayed the War Strider. We just had three months of people bitching about the Leviathan ragdolling you to death, and they decided that having a Hulk equivalent that can ragdoll you to death from behind cover and at long range is a good idea. They have to be on crack there because I see no other reason as to why this was put in the game.

Its not that bad lmfao

They draw the line well before Doom acting like the BFG wouldn't be an awesome support weapon. Well, maybe it wouldn't be since the devs keep adding more heavy armor enemies and only giving us light pen weapons.
Doom Guy's armor from the original 90's games would be a really cool addition too I think, considering that his armor is the generic UAC military outfit/armor. If they wanted something more detailed they could go with the Doom 3 armor. A BFG would also be sweet, but I genuinely believe it would be horrifically OP unless if they made it 3 shot disposable with a looooong recharge time.

The difference is that they're on the ground, you can kill them with a single EAT, and the grenades that ragdoll you are clearly choreographed by the mech launching them, the 'nades landing, beeping really loudly, then blowing up. Unlike the Leviathan which would just instantly zap you before the patch that gave you a warning, a warning that works only half of the time because it goes through buildings and walls so the strike might not even hit you.

Might look a little too close to the Guardsman armor if the 40k collab ever happens

Leviathan:
  • Strongest enemy in the game.
    • Respawns when killed.
  • Extreme aggro and attack range.
  • Flies and attacks from above, cover can be nearly impossible to find, overly restrictive to play around or straight up not available because it's directly above you.
  • Fires in accurate bursts from four separate cannons with no scripted coordination between them to reduce stunlocking and bullshit shotgun blast volleys.
  • Omnipresent, there will generally be one or two on the field at any given time and due to their flying nature they are always a consideration.
    • Doubly so with their eagle eye ass detection range.
  • Only practical way to kill them is the AT emplacement because every other solution takes forever (quasar) or is too ammo hungry to be worthwhile.
War Strider:
  • One shot from regular anti-tank weapons.
    • One of the easiest weakspots to hit in the game.
  • Clear and obvious choreography on both attacks.
    • Grenade barrage is barely lethal due to its nature and exists to drive players from cover/demolish strategems.
    • Main guns are comically inaccurate, always start firing way off center and then slowly come to target to ensure you have time to find cover.
      • Main gun AOE damage is pitiful especially after the inherent 50% explosion damage resistance all Helldivers get. Direct hits are very rare.
        • Bunker guns by comparison are so bullshit lethal because they have no choreography or warning and are accurate enough to almost always 1-2-3 ragdoll-direct hit-direct hit and kill you without any ability to retaliate.
  • Rare and slow, seems like at least half of all Automaton matches don't even roll them in the spawn table and they rarely give pursuit.
Conclusion is that you suck ass at the game lmao.

The only point that I somewhat disagree with, I had a match where there was about 2-3 of these things with every drop or POI. I don't know what the fuck Arrowhead did but the spawns are all over the place in terms of consistency.

The War Striders are not that bad, but yet another thing to ragdoll you is never fun.
I would really appreciate it if they'd stop giving that stupid variant of their energy gun with the blast radius on it on everything.

Anyway I just came back to the game after like 8 months and struggling to find anything fun to use, trying to avoid running a default loadout I keep drifting to, so any suggestions for guns/loadouts that are a bit more F U N?

On bots I permanently fuck with the Railgun (Unsafe). It's good against everything except the mega-armor like Striders, and you can always nuke those with strats or wait for the Recoilless nerd to blow them apart. Redlining the charge cuts devastators in half or blows their heads off. I round everything out with the Sickle (if you magdump a devastator head you'll probably pop the headshot and have plenty left over) and the Portable Hellbomb for moments of pure psychopathy. 500kg for panic bombs, fourth slot swapped out as needed.

What? Really?

I swear those things eat damage like crazy. I don't think I've seen anyone kill them with just one shot of anything short of a hellbomb. Did they get reworked?

I mean fun is pretty subjective. What playstyle do you gravitate towards? What armor do you use? What front are you on?

Nah, since the very start, if you whack them in the robo cock hips or the legs with a recoilless rifle they get one shot, and if you beat on their legs only a decent amount they tip over like a dancing bot tech demo gone wrong. If you try and hit them in the upper body you're doing it wrong, the only reason to try is to destroy their weapons when you don't have a shot. Think of them like what they are- the "Don't Talk to Me or My Son Ever Again" version of Scout/Armored Striders.

My games on Curia earlier had a million of the goddamn things on every mission. I always bring a RR so I turret tossed them no problem, but there were still less hulks by comparison. Spawns are wack.

How the fuck did I miss this? I swear to god I've launched missiles directly into their legs and they just walked it off before.

Quasar/EAT does 2000 Anti Tank. Recoilless 3200, Epoch and Commando two shot anything below the belt. Legs are important for every enemy in the game. And when in doubt, aim for center of mass THE DICK.

I regularly one shot them with the EAT or quasar just by shooting the midsection or legs. They're pretty much a nothingburger like the Hulk if you take care of them immediately. Of course if your team is eating paste then yeah they'd pose a problem but so would any of the bigger bot units at that point.

Honestly I'd take warstriders every day over the fucking hovering "maybe map hazard, maybe tank tier unit". The only change I'd make is also giving them a AP3 weakspot that isnt the stupid joints but eh. Not like everyone and their mother already takes a billion AT to bot dives.

Yeah we figured out the first night we saw them that they head is a useless gimmick. Quasar and EAT are pretty consistent with a nut shot on the fuckers, only time they're really irritating is if they're dropped down inside of a canyon or some sort of cover for their bottom half where you have to reposition.

We play most fronts that have to do with the current MO to try to help, but all 4 of us still hate Illuminates the most. The bullshit they dropped about how all the new Halo guns being LP weapons to "encourage accurate fire on weakpoints" is a shit ass excuse for a group of enemies that straight up don't have weakpoints like fleshmobs. I was hoping for an MO to head into wherever the Illuminate produce their Leviathans and to level the planet so they can remove that shit ass enemy from the game.

Either that or slot in an Anti-Aircrwft stratagem where anything flying in a radius of, let's say 250 meters, for thirty seconds or so gets gangraped with airburst flak shells, railgun strikes, and anti air missiles depending on the target type. That way you don't just gape Leviathans with it but they'll sure as hell be sorry they came around if they do.
