Was playing Balatro when I noticed some weird text in the corner of my screen, just out of site.

Exiting the game, its still there.
It seems like its hidden behind the desktop itself.1000034379.jpg
I think it says something like "??om the"

I messed around, shifted the taskbar to the top, and it vanished. Put it back to the bottom, and it came back but was less visible.

At this point, Ive fiddled with the taskbar enough that I dont see it even in the place where I first saw it. Im pretty confused.

Is the effect it describes as CRT the bubbled screen effect?
I dont know how text got burnt in into that section of the screen though. I dont ever have text there.
I experimented with the CRT setting but didnt replicate anything. I noticed when you turn it off and back on it changes the color of the "outside of the CRT screen" from black to pale green. And that sticks even when you leave the settings.

I dont think my monitor is OLED, when I make the screen black it seems to still be emitting some light.
It might just be Balatro's effects your noticing.

Edit: I noticed a similar thing some weeks ago while playing another game. Faint horizontal lines in the middle of the upper left quadrant of the screen. They persisted after leaving the game, but were gone when I next turned on the computer.

Yes I was talking about the CRT effect. Do you have the steam notifications for when somone plays a game turned off? That's what it was for me.

With the other graphical issues I would guess it's either the monitor or the GPU, I know jack shit about GPUs though so thats a complete shot in the dark.

It could be burn in. But I don't think that happens to modern displays. I believe that was mainly a CRT issue. That's why people used to use screen savers which really aren't a thing anymore. These days people just set their displays to shut down after a certain time.

Another issue is it could be some kind of glitch or something. But I don't really know. If it goes away and comes back it means your display is fine though.

If you ever notice it again, use print screen to take a screenshot and check if it's actually there in the display output or some kind of burn in like others have suggested.

Image persistience is a different phenomenon from burn-in and happens when the liquid crystals in a screen get stuck in a position after being there for a long time and dont undo when current is removed. it was much more common 20 years ago with cheap shitty screens

I said you don't have to. You can just get it for free. You can creaste a Windows 10 boot USB install windows and never activate and just keep using it. Of course you won't have access to all the features. But you will have access to what you need to run windows and use your PC which is good enough for most people.

But like I said you can get a OEM copy of Windows for pretty cheap.
