The problem is all of these Data Points are from 10 years ago and no one bothered to actually learn why they are important or how they've changed so dramatically.
that's not it imo, those things are definitely still relevant and popular in current year despite being old.
valve is doing the "hero shooter with moba style creep farming and item shop" thing in 2026 with deadlock, and it's apparently doing pretty well already despite still being in closed beta.

the difference is that valve has competent game designers (word on the street is that icefrog himself is in charge of deadlock) who are in it purely for the love of the game, while highguard smells like its design decisions were made by committees staffed with corpo people who hold MBA degrees.

Holy shit he came back guys! My sides!!!

So, since it's the last day of service. Or is it the second to last one? I've decided to check out the forums on Steam; and as you'd expect, it's fucking retarded

Mostly because the "haters" are alt-right boogeymen that modern gaymers have been conditioned to hate.

But seriously, the game's simps are pretty entertaining even if it it's mainly just one guy RREEEEEEING about how he'll never get anything good if the chuds kept harassing the creators of woke garbage.

But seriously, you fuckers, I am not archiving 45 pages of copium. I think that I've did it up to around 14 or so

I'm pretty sure even when a game is delisted its forum remains. Technically, if you bought a game pre-delisting you can still download and install it just fine (it's a legal thing I think) so in theory you could still engage with players if you have the link to the forum, since the game's store page will just redirect to the Steam homepage.

Of course, for a live service schlock like Highguard where it's no longer playable even if you still have it in your account, this doesn't really matter since the game has no single player mode. But the forum is still there.

Yeah, but I'm not willing to take any chances with an impending case of lost media.

Which is at least partially why I archived a few threads

I wonder what happens to the highguard IP and assets now. It's not like Concord where the studio was directly owned by Sony who could quietly absorb it into a shadow archive. Is there a possibility of a great Highguard auction or Highguard Open Source? I doubt it, but it'd sure be entertaining
It really depends on how their relationship with Tencent was structured. It’s either going to go to them or some insurance company somewhere who probably won’t even realise it has it until lost media autists start bothering them in ten years.

Highguard is experiencing its last gasp before death.
Looks like the achievement hunters were out in force

Note that at least one of the speedrunning trophies got screwed over by the update, so the meta shifted towards going for the destroying the generator that instantly forced an win.

So what was woke exactly in Highguard? The only thing in the design is Nigger on the cover, and not a lot of fanservice from the women. Concord at least had fatties and grannies to violate your eyes, while Highguard doesn't elicit any response.

Did you read the thread? It's not so much woke than it's just completely unoriginal and released into an already oversaturated market full of much better games.

It's got that standard western ambient wokeness (unrealistic demographics, ugly characters, etc.) and the developers are bog standard cali libs who probably would have gone harder if not for recent failures. It was shilled and defended by all the expected retards in the press/YouTube sphere.

It doesn't make it woke though, just another "Overwatch killer" dying out of the gate like many before it. The characters aren't even ugly and the women don't have man jaws. Also none of them at least look outright trannies.

I swear, if Street Fighter was released today people would argue it's woke.

you are correct about this, highguard was very mild on the woke shit. all it had on that front were the usual 'ambiguously brown ethnicity' stuff and some rather tame stronk womyn archetype characters (but from what i've seen they're just generic 'female warrior' stuff, without the more abrasive 'sassy girlboss' shit you see in more aggressively woke media)

overall character design in highgard was pretty inoffensive. not great, not terrible, just kinda generic and bland.

It's still the issue that people trying to revive the dead meme that is Concord for a year and a half now. Every flop is compared to it no matter the circumstances, and it just devalues the absurdity because cases like Highguard are retarded even without the question where it stands in the culture war. This game needed to go through multiple people to put a rubber stamp on it and seemingly not one of them plays video games.

Dustborn and Relooted also have investment from woke government programs, they're literally made for the purpose of propaganda. That's what makes a dustbornlike IMO, that and unbelievable amount of cringe as well as complete lack of self-awareness.
Don’t forget Pathways. It backfired in the best way possible (for us, not the devs) and became the hot new chud meme.

That’s why I never bothered with Highguard. That’s masochistic dedication trying to complete an online game DOA.

I genuinely think most of the entertainment I've gotten out of laughing at Highguard - and the greater Concord-verse - flopping is just due to the overly inflated budgets. Even ignoring Dorito Pope shilling the game for a minute, they spent, per some quick Google-Fu, an estimated $200M on this game, for what feels like the most "designed by committee" slop I've seen in a while. I can't even say whether or not the game was Woke, it being Bland and Forgettable is actually worse. At least Concord was visually distinct, even if not in a good way.

I feel like we all would've moved on from laughing at these had they not spent hundreds of millions of dollars making these bombs. As is, the lack of pattern recognition from the AAA Dev Industry is almost lolcow worthy.
