Good catch, I wanted to post about that.
Another post from Josh hours ago:
Goodnight, Highguard.

Although it didn’t get enough consistent players to sustain the studio, I am emotionally fulfilled by the journey. Modern metrics for success are very complicated, but if you put every human who enjoyed their time with Highguard into a field, it would be very cathartic. Every one of you who enjoyed the game, no matter for how long, matters. Even if you just gave it a fair shot with an open mind, I appreciate that. I’m very proud of what the team and I created, and I had a blast playing the game with you, until the very end. Best 3yrs of my career.

And to the folks who continue to hurl insults at me: If we met face to face, I believe we would very easily reach mutual respect and understanding. This Internet culture is not real. I hope you come to realize that you and I are both better than the toxic fantasy it paints.

Until next time.

Ex-Naughty Dog artist who helped design characters for Highguard promises to keep fighting the good fight - just not in the live-service sphere, anymore

"I'm gonna keep putting beautiful Black women in games."
A former Naughty Dog artist will continue to work on games, but is stepping away from live-service for good after the shut down of Highguard.

Del Walker - a prominent vide game artist who has worked on a myriad of titles including The Last of Us Part 2, Suicide Squad, Halo Wars 2 and Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, to name a few - recently shared an "early pass" of a character he helped create for Highguard.

The character in question was a Warden named Condor, "a skilled explorer" who channels her "extrasensory abilities" through her bird companion. You can see her Highguard character trailer below.

Now, with Highguard shutting down just a matter of weeks after it made its debut in January, Walker has shared his artwork designs for Condor.

"This was my early pass of the Highguard character Condor before she was refined in-house," he wrote on social media, adding while he was only part of the project for a short time, he will "keep putting beautiful Black women in games". However, he will not be putting them into live-service games.

"Ones that can disappear won't get my time of energy anymore," Walker said. When a commenter suggested he pitch his ideas for Deadlock - Valve's technically unreleased and invite-only shooter - Walker again affirmed his stance on live-service work.

"I do not plan to work on any live-service game again," he replied. "Successful or not." You can check out Walker's Condor artwork in the header above and below.

Highguard closed out The Game Awards 2025, with a trailer introducing us all to a world of battling Wardens and their magical mounts. The game then launched in January, and quickly had a large influx of players on its release. But there were a few complaints as well, with many disappointed with areas such as map size and the 3v3 game format.

The studio sought to address these issues with a number of content updates and patches, while also making its once-limited-time 5v5 mode a permanent feature. However, this was not enough, and dwindling player numbers along with a reported lack of funding have ultimately resulted in Wildlight deciding to cut its losses, and pull the plug on Highguard.

After one last patch earlier this month, Highguard will go offline today, 12th March. It follows other high-profile live-service shut downs and cancellations, including Sony's 5v5 sci-fi shooter Concord, which was taken offline just two weeks after its PC and PS5 debut, following a lackluster launch and weak sales. The game had been in the works for eight years, it had been said.

I didn't even know how to start the contradiction in that article.

I genuinely think most of the entertainment I've gotten out of laughing at Highguard - and the greater Concord-verse - flopping is just due to the overly inflated budgets. Even ignoring Dorito Pope shilling the game for a minute, they spent, per some quick Google-Fu, an estimated $200M on this game, for what feels like the most "designed by committee" slop I've seen in a while. I can't even say whether or not the game was Woke, it being Bland and Forgettable is actually worse. At least Concord was visually distinct, even if not in a good way.

I feel like we all would've moved on from laughing at these had they not spent hundreds of millions of dollars making these bombs. As is, the lack of pattern recognition from the AAA Dev Industry is almost lolcow worthy.
It's not even full AAA, some bizarre hybrid studio of post AAA devs with infinite Chink funding managing to make a game that looks... like chink fantasy slop.

Though admittedly that's giving the devs too much credit of trying to make designs that would be inoffensive to chinese authorities, and even then you can still make those somewhat memorable.

It's just a fuckload of cash that, like with Hollywood, it's anyone's guess where it went to. The graphics are mediocre. The designs are bland. The action is uninspired. It's by a team that shouldn't have any issue creating every technical aspect without any issue. There isn't even a lot of content for the release itself.

And on receiving the tiniest bit of pushback the whole thing collapsed instantly as if it's made by some tranny rather than a team that worked in a pretty harsh industry.

Bro you learned absolutely nothing
As long as the industry keeps hiring this dipshit, it'll stay that way. At least it means we'll keep being entertained by more failed game launches when they keep doing the same thing over and over and wondering why it fails each time.

"Keep" implies that he was putting BBWs (Beautiful Black Women) into games. Where are they tho? May we see them? There are lots of Ugly Black Women (and Ugly Black "Women") so I'm getting a little confused here.

Just for reference, Firefly Aerospace was paid $101 million dollars for successfully landing an uncrewed probe on the Moon.
