I understand nicotine, subjective taste and all that, but tobacco and whatever is contained in a cigarette is pure cancer and smells like trash (to me, it does). It doesn't even make you look cooler, whoever thought of that has been brainwashed by movies and posters (laughs). You kind of look like cattle, paying money to suck from Satan's prick, and swallow.

Does it relax you? Can you not overcome the addiction?
I'm not going to post pictures, but you know how human lungs get to when exposed to the substance for long periods of time. So it baffles me that at this point in time, not just people who smoke exist, but a lot of people like that exist, including young ones.

Polluting the entire area around you, and sometimes not even stepping on the cigarette's butt when done, how rude. Of course you can do whatever you want, but that's some odd behaviour from someone who thinks they're not a complete idiot.

Discuss.

Because I work 16 hour shifts and I need to relax. Cigarettes aren't even in the top five things I am likely to die from.

Fuck off with the puritanical moralism that nonsmokers always trot out. People have hard lives. If they find relief from that in doing something suboptimal to their lungs, that's their own fucking business.

Nicotine relieves anxiety, something that is in abundance these days as a result of how society is structured. Most people have to work and do a bunch of other things and if nicotine helps people relax, why take that away.

Is it bad for you, yes and I don’t think anybody would refute that. My problem comes in with these delusional pricks that not only make life more stressful (political animals and self-absorbed, self-righteous cunts) but also want to demonize you for engaging in a habit that helps relieve that stress. Managing secondhand smoke is one thing, trying to abolish smoking entirely is a bridge too far in my book.

To begin with like so many drugs in probably the majority of cases addicts were exposed before they were even 18, so by the time someone hits adulthood the habit's already established.

They can't overcome the addiction, nicotine is structurally not too far off from amphetamine and if someone's predisposed it can be even more addictive than most hard drugs since it acts quickly and fades quickly, and it tends to work its way into people's routine so that there are a lot of smoking triggers.

I've heard of any number of cases where people get off opiates and other drugs, but they never manage to kick smoking.

It never did much for me personally which I'm happy with, but again it's all down to the person.

I use dip. I don't know if it's better buy the dentist says I have good genes so I think I'm fine.

Who the hell smokes cigarettes to "look cool"? That's a 15 year old's idea of smoking.
You smoke for the nicotine. It's a nice, relaxing rush that gives you the perfect excuse for a break from work.
Also very nice after a meal.
Is it bad for you? Sure. But so are most fun things in life. Get a grip.

I prefer a cigar.

I strongly associate cigars with Ralph who as it turns out is a homosexual and needs a phallic object to suck on.

I used to smoke a pack a day, but when it turned from occasional relaxing thing to do into having to smoke when I didn't even want to, I quit. I weaned myself from opioids cold turkey so cigs were a piece of cake. I'm a wagie now so I don't have much time for drunken escapades, but I might smoke a few cigs once in a blue moon when I'm out drinking with the boys. But that amounts to like a pack or two a year.

I don't smoke. I'm the only person in my family who doesn't. Everyone else chain smokes like there's no tomorrow and panics if they don't have a fresh pack ready to go. I also have a couple of gross "anything is an ashtray" relatives.🤮

As long as I can remember I have hated cigarette smoke. It smells awful and dries out my sinuses until they burn.

My grandmother died of lung cancer. She smoked for 40 years and was very successful quitting cold turkey. But it was too late and she ended up dying of lung cancer. Yeah that's not gonna be me. I have minor lung scarring from a very bad respiratory infection I contracted in 2017. I know better than to play with fire.

I find a lot of smokers have this smugness about smoking that's kind of annoying. But I try to ignore it. I understand it's an addiction. At least it's not drugs or booze. Still bad for you. But you won't OD or anything. But you don't look so good with what amounts to an adult pacifier sticking out of your mouth.

When I was a kid they still had those cigarette ads with people beautiful running on the beach with "Flavor" and "Pleasure" written in big letters. If you smoke these cancer sticks you too can be one of the beautiful people. We had Joe Camel and those cute little penguins on the Kool box. They got rid of those because they were attractive to kids. With cigarettes the less marketing the better.
