For most people i would recommend going away from the city if possible, hanging out in the nature without internet, noise and random people does wonders. Its easier to think about life when you are somewhere peaceful smoking cigars with some drinks.
Dare to spend time alone with an honest intent on seeking Truth. One will be led to it in a way that can only be walked by that individual. Each has a path that is theirs and theirs alone - beautifully individuated.
I could suggest many books, lectures, films, mini-series, etc, from souls who came before and left signposts for others. Little markers to assist those with eyes to see them exist everywhere in life when one puts aside distraction. I've probably forgotten more (off the top of my head) than I'd remember at this point, even. However, I try to avoid reinforcing already deeply-ingrained tendencies to rush from solution to solution, as that's one of the earliest things that one must learn to release.
You'll inevitably hit all kinds of highs and lows along the way. You may jump from book to book, and perhaps chase after various philosophies or religions. You may find yourself clawing at the brick walls of a dead end (temporarily) unable to realize it was simply a wrong turn. One is never stuck or truly lost. None are unworthy, either. Not one.
Perhaps trends in historical cycles are noticed. The repeated undeniable pattern of Truth hiding under all religions (though incredibly distorted) could be discovered. Maybe some part of one's moral framework that was once clung to so tightly is found to be nothing but a farce. One could have their entire world crash and burn around them in great existential crisis. It could be any of these and so many, many more (and it will happen), but it is nothing that can be mapped out by another.
The journey to know the self is the greatest gift of this life. One is granted all the tools necessary; they need only try.
While I'd agree that entheogens are an incredible tool to assist in the process, I would also suggest that they only be sought after one has sorted themselves out first. The proverbial skeletons in one's closet are easier to deal with willingly vs having one's inner shadow kick their spiritual ass up and down the street..putting it mildly.
