How do you tell genuine goodness apart from fake goodness?

Being autistic Internet posting trash, sometimes I feel like friendly social butterfly types (actually, one specific dude I know) are fake, but then I wonder if it's just me who's screwed up that I have to read a bad personality trait into something good because it's unfamiliar to me.

How can you tell when somebody's putting on a big act versus being genuinely friendly? Does it even matter if the results seem to be the same?

You are asking the wrong question because you want to know their intent.
That's hard, if not impossible to figure out and most genuinely nice people have no intent in being nice, they just are.
However, be careful whom you befriend. Someday they will ask something from or of you.

Are you talking online or in real life?

In real life what you're going to want to do is say something really stupid. Be like "I was on reddit and I learned about people penetrating garbage disposals while the power is on and I think it's really erotic, I've been thinking about it a lot recently" and see what they say. If they brutally mock you (men) or act concerned (women and gay men) and ultimately advise you against it they probably actually like you and you should be nice. If they cheer you on to shove your dick in a live garbage disposal that means they're psychopaths who are just pretending to be nice for social advantage.

Online there's no way to know, so don't listen to any of them. They're all sick individuals who shouldn't be trusted.

I just assume everyone is running some kind of game and keep my defenses up.

It depends.

Has she asked you for your credit card info?
Is her social media account only a few days old?
Was she the one who first broached the subject of feet pics and nudes, or was it you?

If they’re being compensated financially or sexually, or expect either of those things, they’re being fake.

Frauds make sure to do kind things where everyone can see them but otherwise don't. Genuinely kind people just do kind things as a matter of nature. It takes a while to differentiate the two and It is almost impossible online. Personally I try to offend everyone.
